My primary goal is to offer a safe and caring environment where clients will be able to work through problematic thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. In doing so, the journey of healing and growth begins. I prefer to utilize a holistic approach to counseling, incorporating various treatment methods into my practice depending upon the needs of each client. As a result, individuals are able to heal from deep rooted issues and trauma. I offer a complimentary 15 minute phone consultation in order for clients to learn more about my approach to counseling and get a sense for my particular style. I also offer evening appointments.

You feel lonely, like nobody really knows you. You go through the motions, just getting through the day. You're putting on an act, worried what your loved ones would think if they knew the real you. You try to be perfect and hide how flawed you really are. You try to remember when this feeling started but it seems to go too far back. You notice yourself feeling on edge when you are with others, yet just as unsettled when you are alone. You want desperately to be able to open up but the walls built around you have become an isolated room. You wonder what it would be like to break free and be the real you. The only way out is through.

Everyone deserves a safe space and providing that is my first priority. I am a client-centered, down-to-earth clinician who leads with empathy, honesty, and humor. There is often a dog in my office (and glitter all over the floor) and my Southern accent tends to sneak in without warning. My goal is to help people live fulfilling lives of dignity and I genuinely want to see individuals and families live life to the fullest. I invite you to come just as you are and would be honored to partner with you during your healing journey!

Individuals who come to see me are often conflicted about an important situation or change in their lives. They may be going through life feeling stuck or in a state of limbo. Others experience disappointment and frustration, which often leads to strained relationships. Some individuals want to increase self-awareness and grow through self-exploration. I offer a comfortable and safe environment that enables growth, healing, self-reflection and hope for the future.

The season is changing and still nothing's changed. Every morning is the same. The alarm goes off and you hit the snooze button over and over, before finally tumbling out of bed. Why? Because facing the day is drudgery. You get all the necessary tasks done, but without enthusiasm, connection, or joy. The panic and fear are just icing on the cake. That voice in your head tells you, "don't bother; you'll never measure up". No one knows how hard it is to keep going. it doesn't feel safe to tell them. Where did the voice come from? When did it start? Too long ago to remember. One's for sure - nothing you've tried has worked.

Life can be a rollercoaster of stressors, can't it? Whether it's the fallout from recent events, ongoing challenges, or the weight of old emotional wounds, we all face our fair share of uphill battles. Sometimes, these struggles can lead us into patterns of behavior and thinking that only exacerbate our stress and emotional turmoil. That's where I step in.

Are you wanting to break free of patterns that no longer serve you? I would love to provide a safe place for you if you are experiencing any stress or lack of control, if you have been exposed to trauma (indoctrination/religious harm or trauma), or if you identify as a part of the LGBTQ+ community. I also would love to work with you and your partner in couples therapy to help you communicate effectively and love more openly through increased vulnerability and healthy boundaries in your relationship.

Let's be honest, each of us at times feels overwhelmed and/or disconnected from our usual selves. It may be a struggle to accept our feelings or lack of feeling in the midst of overwhelm. At this point, our thoughts generally tend to be more negative and self-deprecating than "normal". We can get caught in a downward spiral that affects our self-concept, physical health, emotional well-being, relationships, creativity, and work production. Most of us will, with time, be able to stop the spiral and start returning to the person we were before the initializing event.

The focus of my practice is to create a safe and accepting space for individuals and families to work through life's challenges and strengthen resiliency skills. We may not have control over all of our circumstances but we each have the capacity to develop healthy skills to cope with adversity. I believe healthy attachments are a critical part of healing, particularly with children and adolescents. Therefore, I take a family systems approach when working with youth. I'm trained and experienced in working with female survivors of intimate partner violence and use trauma-focused approaches in their journey to healing.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Scottsdale?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
