My name is Emily Alona, and I’ve been in mental health for the past 14 years, the last 8 as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. My approach to therapy is relational, pragmatic, and client-centered. The bulk of my work has been with children, youth, and their parents/guardians. I have experience working with children (both individually and in family work) as well as adolescents. I have specialized training and experience working with trauma processing, grief, anxiety, and depression.
My goal is always to help my clients live and function more comfortably. Depending on the age and needs of the client, I typically use a combination of humanistic and cognitive-behavioral approaches, while maintaining focus on the client’s context - meaning how environmental factors are impacting the client.
My communication style is direct but tempered. I strive to build trust and a relationship first and to create a safe space for my clients. I see my role as a therapist to be that of a guide.
