I am also trained in EMDR.
I have closed my practice in Burlington as of May, 2024. In September of 2024 I will begin seeing clients in Shelburne, VT, offering a very specific short term protocol: Brief Parental Therapy, focused on parents of neurodivergent teens and young adults. I will also be offering brief metaphoric work. Both protocols would entail three sessions over a six-week period. I and trained in and love doing metaphoric work, thus the brief protocol based on sand tray therapy.

I work with clients to determine their therapeutic goals and draw upon techniques from Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, IFS, EMDR, Narrative and experiential modalities.
I enjoy working with young adult clients who are seeking to engage in a change process and identify patterns that are keeping them stuck, whether in relationship to self, their support system or their environment. I primarily work with clients who are transitioning from their therapist at home as they begin college in the Burlington area, or those who are established students at one of the local universities. I also provide services for wilderness therapy guides in search of their own therapeutic support or those looking to intentionally process their field work.

I will share my deep experience in relationship systems, stress management, neurofeedback and EMDR to develop a strategy to unravel the threads that have you in knots and to find tools to help you move forward gracefully.
Relationships are the foundation of well being. Perhaps you are worried about your marriage, facing a divorce or the loss of a job, the breakup of a family business, adult children who blame you for their struggles or your struggle to find a love match or the perfect job. How do I find my way through this?

I primarily utilize Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), solution-focused and mindfulness-based therapies, while also acknowledging the oppressive systems that often contribute to the reasons clients are seeking therapy.
As humans I believe we are always working towards healing and positive self-growth. I create a collaborative, compassionate and non-judgmental space with my clients to help them discover why they are struggling and work towards their continued growth. I specialize in working with women-identifying people and queer folks that are 18+ who have experienced a single event trauma and want to get to the root of what is causing them pain.

I am trained in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Relational Cultural Theory, and EMDR.
Being vulnerable and open can feel scary. I take a non-judgmental approach with all my clients no matter what they bring to the therapy space. Listening carefully, reflecting back, gentle challenges, and infusing all parts of the process with compassion (and sometimes humor!) are my style. My clients experience deeper insight, improved symptoms, and a sense that I am truly on their team cheering them on in life.

I utilize a variety of modalities in my clinical approach, including EMDR, CBT, Solution Focused, and Motivational Interviewing.
Not accepting new clients and no waitlist availability at this time. I love working with adults and youth who are feeling "stuck" and are seeking ways in which they can improve their overall functioning across domains. I offer a calm and safe place that can be utilized for self-exploration and reflection. My background is rooted in trauma-informed care and transformative social work practice. I am a strong believer in the importance of authenticity in relationships. My ideal client is someone who is willing, at whatever pace makes sense to them, to collaborate on identifying solutions to overcome obstacles.

I am a certified intuitive eating counselor and licensed clinical social worker, I utilize evidence-based treatment modalities such as, EMDR, CBT, DBT, and REBT.
I believe connection is at the root of healing. Attunement is an essential component of connection and represents the ability to accurately perceive and respond to the needs of self and others. Factors such as: trauma, distorted thinking, reliance on technology, cultural ideals, family of origin values and beliefs, and community messages interrupt our natural ability to attune and we often feel disconnected from others as a result. As a therapist, I work with individuals who are interested in nurturing attunement to improve their relationship to self, body, and food.

My primary modalities of practice include Mindfulness Practice, Dialectical Behavior Therapy and EMDR - all viewed through a trauma-informed lens and approached in a practical, sensitive, and collaborative manner.
Currently accepting new clients. Life can be complex: relationships, family, school, work. Our lives can be further challenged by the unique aspects of our times. We are under constant bombardment of information, straining our ability to focus and compartmentalize. Factors such as trauma, shame and guilt further complicate things. My approach is to help "break it down and make it simple". This means helping people untangle their thoughts, pressures and feelings, while collaboratively devising plans aimed at learning to manage and alleviate whatever symptoms are causing distress.

One of the best things my dad ever said to me was: Unless you believe in reincarnation, it’s time to be happy now. (Personally, I think this applies even if you do believe in reincarnation.) How to make the most of our time, our relationships, and ourselves - for me, these are the key questions that led me to become a marriage and family therapist. Along with traditional talk therapy, I use EMDR (if desired), as well as IFS, to help you work through present challenges and past difficult experiences so that you can live more freely in the here and now - unencumbered by old self-defeating beliefs and fears.

For those actively pursuing trauma recovery, EMDR is a staple of my work.
I work with people who wish to improve their quality of life through self-understanding and self-compassion. I believe that our minds and bodies are doing the best they can to keep us safe and alive in the face of unmet needs and unjust social systems, and that each person embodies a deep wisdom informed by their unique life story. Sometimes, protective patterns that were once necessary during challenging or traumatic experiences no longer serve our wellbeing. Together, we can celebrate and strengthen what is working and bring gentle curiosity to what isn't.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
