I remember the first time I sat in a therapist's office, I was nervous, afraid she'd see all of my insecurities, afraid of truly being seen. What being in that office provided me was the ability to see myself and that I really wasn't that bad. It was the beginning pathway to a happier and more peaceful existence with myself. That is why I decided to become a therapist. I wanted to offer others a unique and peaceful journey to understanding their responses, their inner world, and ultimately themselves.

By utilizing animals, mindfulness, movement, art, and music throughout your healing process - with EMDR, CBT, ACT, and parts/inner child work.
Healing from trauma is not easy. I don't believe sugarcoating how difficult this process may be, is beneficial to anyone. But you don't have to go through it alone. I have been working with survivors of trauma for the last 6 years. I've specialized in working with survivors of sexual assault, rape, domestic violence, intimate partner violence and abuse. I know picking the right therapist for this process may be difficult, so I encourage having a free phone consultation with me, to see if it feels like a good fit! I'm excited that you've begun this process of healing, and look forward to playing a role in your healing journey.

I’m trained in EMDR.
When certain challenges arise in life, it can be difficult to figure out what the next step is. It can be especially difficult to deal with life's circumstances when you feel like you have to do it on your own, or when you're not really sure where to look for answers. What would it look like if you could find yourself fully empowered to find those answers within yourself? As your therapist, I will stand alongside you and work to help you find healing. Together, we will identify and work through the barriers keeping you from feeling whole and complete... whether those barriers exist in the past, present, or concerns about the future.

I have also been trained in EMDR which is a powerful way to help people work through traumatic past events.
I specialize in Trauma/PTSD, Anxiety, Depression, Addiction, and Couples Counseling. I don’t believe there is one way to treat everyone…which is why using creativity and tailoring the process to exactly what you need is important.  Most therapists tend to fall back on techniques to try to help their clients manage their problems.  My approach is very different.  My approach is all about treating the root cause of anxiety, depression, addiction, and trauma.  If you want to get rid of a weed you don’t just want to trim the top, you want to pull it out by the roots.

Your care is important, so I use research-based methods such as DBT, EMDR, and other ego-state therapies.
Mental health matters, and sometimes we need help and support to get us to where we want to be. My goal is to help you feel safe, understood, and respected. Your healing journey matters, and I would like nothing more than to help you along the way. Whether you are experiencing anxiety, depression, or the effects of trauma, I’m here to help. I enjoy engaging clients in parts work through Internal Family Systems (IFS). I've found that IFS can be very effective in treating trauma, anxiety, and depression.

I use a variety of therapies including EMDR, CBT, ACT, and IFS.
I believe that we all have a deep well of wisdom within us, and my role as a therapist is to be a guide to help you tap into yours. I choose to focus on your strengths, to help you see them, and to use a collaborative approach as we work together on a journey of growth and healing. I specialize in maternal mental health, infertility, bereavement, trauma, and relationship struggles. In my prior work as a doula, I found great passion in supporting families and now continue doing so by focusing on mental health during pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and beyond.

I use CBT, EMDR, play therapy, and sandplay therapy.
Clients who come in ready to work on themselves are leaps and bounds ahead of clients who might be dragging their feet in coming to therapy. If you are ready to change and personally motivated, your progress will be quick and you will get a lot out of the therapeutic process. Brief, solution focused therapy is often the most helpful depending on the client, but my intention is always to start where each individual client is at and work to assist them in their goals and desires for change based on their own strengths.

Do current events have you frazzled? Ever felt like you were in a relationship with someone who wasn't available? Or are you trying to rediscover yourself after divorce, having a child go off to college, or death of a loved one? I help people with all kinds of situations. Whether you are experiencing problems in a relationship, grief or bereavement, depression, anxiety, or a spiritual crisis, there is hope. I am trained in EMDR, CBT, ACT, DBT, Solution-Focused Therapy, psychodynamic theory, and routinely learn from experts in the field. Perhaps most important though, is that I listen.

The privilege of a lifetime is to become who you truly are - Carl Jung… This quote has been my guiding inspiration on my own journey and in my work with others. It can be so easy to lose yourself in the day to day endeavor of living. This can be particularly true for those who have suffered with a history of trauma. Fortunately, within a trusting therapeutic relationship, it is possible to find yourself and become the person you truly are. I have witnessed this happen again and again.

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
