I have extensive training in play therapy, sandtray therapy, and in using EMDR with children.
I believe that we can make many changes in our lives in a myriad of ways. We can make changes within ourselves by breaking negative thinking patterns, learning new ways to manage and react to feelings, or by changing behavioral habits. We can also makes changes in our physical and social world, and I seek to help you make decisions and find solutions by identifying realistic, practical, acheivable goals. Core to my practice is a belief that therapy does not need to be painful to be effective, and that smaller changes lead to more and bigger changes.

Finding the right therapist in itself can be overwhelming. I provide free consultations so that you can get an idea if we are a good fit. It's been my passion the last 13 years to help people after experiencing traumatic events. I am trained in EMDR which is also known as "no talk therapy". You can share as much or as little as you like making it a preferable type of therapy for those struggling with trauma but not comfortable talking about it. I have also worked closely with first responders for the last 10 years making me familiar with the culture.

EMDR is highly effective for all ages in treating PTSD, anxiety, depression, addiction, self-harm and other compulsive behaviors.
Being curious about what makes us feel and act the way we do brings authenticity, creativity, and choices into our lives. Our self-concept and beliefs about the world are often formed in childhood and learned in our primary relationships. Unconsciously, these early experiences guide many of the decisions in our lives. I am passionate about exploring with you, the patterns that may leave you feeling confused, frustrated, or unable to move forward. Together, we will create space to cultivate conscious and caring responses to the inevitable challenging events of life.

I specialize in wilderness therapy, expressive arts therapies, and EMDR.
People and their stories have always inspired and humbled me. Helping others to walk through their shadows and experience the light is a true gift. Earlier in my life I went through some difficult experiences. The wilderness, music, art, and movement helped me to feel and learn to move through those hardships. My connection with the natural world has revealed my inner potential and helped me to heal from traumas. I am dedicated to incorporating my knowledge of therapy, relationship to the natural world, yoga and expressive arts for each person I work with. I believe in feeling all of the human emotions with balance and intention.

I use a trauma informed and attachment-based approach, and I am trained in CBT, EMDR, and play therapy.
A therapeutic alliance is the only relationship that can be completely about you and judgment free. This gives you the opportunity and emotional space to uncover and work through unhelpful patterns that you have learned as a means of survival. The good news is that you no longer have to merely survive. Through our work together, we will create new patterns of coping that will help you thrive in all areas of your life.

When we experience trauma, we are often left feeling alone, misunderstood, invisible, and unsafe, even within ourselves. Through the process of therapy, we can regain hope, connection, safety, and understanding of ourselves and others. I use wide-range of evidenced-based modalities, from psychodynamic and CBT to EMDR and somatic therapies to decrease the emotional reactivity, tension, and isolation that trauma can create. Regardless of our trauma histories, our modern world can contribute to feelings of disconnection, dissatisfaction, and uncertainty about our worth and our purpose.

I am trained in EMDR, parent-child interaction therapy, perinatal mental health, solution-focused brief therapy, lactation counseling, trust based relational intervention, cognitive behavioral therapy, and motivational interviewing.
As human beings, we are hard-wired for two things: to survive and to connect. I whole-heartedly believe that in order to survive (and thrive!) in life, we need connection. We all want to feel seen, heard, understood, and accepted; these are the basic ingredients in order for us to feel safe in our relationships, and what I strive to bring to you as your therapist. I am equipped to support adults experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma, and stress, and parents facing behavioral and relational challenges with children under the age of 7. I also specialize in perinatal mental health and lactation.

My training utilizes EMDR, Mindfulness, Interpersonal Neurobiology, Narrative Therapy, and CBT.
First I'd like to say that I'm glad you're here. Prioritizing yourself and your mental health is a vulnerable process. It is my intention to create a space with choice, encouragement, and warmth. The time we have together is set aside to address whatever stressors are most present in your life. I have experience supporting individuals of all ages struggling with PTSD, depression, anxiety, panic disorder, ADHD, and grief. In addition to counseling, I have provided advocacy and trial prep to survivors of sexual assault and other violent crimes. I'm a staunch advocate for women's rights, LGBTQIA+, and other marginalized communities.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
