EMDR allows us to get to the root cause of your issues so that you can move forward with your life.
Is the past influencing your present life? I have discovered that so many of us have a hard time living in the present because of things from our past... or we struggle because we don't believe we are "good enough." I have been practicing for 13 years. I am trained in EMDR and believe everyone can grow, heal, and live fulfilling lives. My greatest joy is seeing my clients redefine who they are according to their values...Being able to be authentic. No longer confined to the pressures, ideals and expectations of others or shackled to the past.

If you decide to reach out, I will be honored to work with you through a trauma-informed lens of EMDR or traditional talk therapy.
Existing can be tough, especially if you're part of a marginalized community, going through a difficult time, or have faced adversity and/or trauma. Our brains want to experience fulfillment and peace, but at times the familiar patterns or approaches we've tried aren't getting us the life we desire. Often we believe there's something wrong with us, when in reality it's what happened to us and the ripple effects of that which are causing us pain and suffering.

I utilize a variety of techniques to accomplish healing such as CBT, DBT, trauma focused, EMDR, somatic therapy, polyvagal theory informed therapy, mindfulness (nature, meditation, etc.
There is a reason we do the things that we do and feel the way that we feel. All mental health issues are caused by us surviving and navigating this world to the best of our abilities given all the obstacles that can get in the way. Therapy is a science and an art. In better understanding the science and the question of “why” we do the things that we do can be a powerful tool in starting your healing journey. Once having this level of insight, therapy aims to not only heal you in the present but heal the deeper underlying issues that have caused things to get to this point.

I have been extremely fortunate to been trained by EMDR specialist Kimberly Shultz, who taught me to take a trauma-informed and holistic approach to all clients.
I specialize in Trauma/ EMDR and Codependency/Attachment issues, seeing both couples and individuals. Trauma (i.e. repressed emotion and negative self-belief) manifests in psychological, emotional, and behavioral patterns that can be incredibly distressing. I've seen this poison relationships, where it presents as codependency, infidelity, addiction, and emotional neglect. In individuals it shows up as disordered eating/eating disorders (body dysmorphia, binge eating disorder, anorexia), OCD/anxiety, depression/anger issues, CPTSD, substance abuse disorders, and mood disorders. We'll start with the most distressing problem first!

By utilizing an integrative approach, including EMDR, we will the begin the hard work of getting to the root issue of what may need to be untangled while utilizing tools between sessions in order to achieve results.
If you are looking for therapy that is tailored to helping men with their mental health, I might just be the right fit. It may be that your ADHD, anxiety or depression is in control of your life and making it difficult to complete simple tasks during the day. Your relationships don’t seem to work out. You lose control of your anger, driving others away, ultimately leaving you full of shame and alone. Or you have harmful emotions and/or behaviors that are running your life. I work exclusively with men to help them address the issues unique to them in order to achieve emotional maturity and lead full lives.

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
