My training and experience give me a broad perspective to draw from during treatment, enabling me to use a variety of therapeutic tools, such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Emotional Transformation Therapy (ETT) and Therapeutic Play.
As a therapist, I get excited about the opportunity for change in a person’s life. I take a holistic approach, considering the many factors that affect a client’s mental and emotional state, not just the presenting problem. My goal is to connect with a person in such a way that allows me to understand the influences - family, friends, environment and medication - that contribute to their specific situation. My background as a Licensed Professional Counselor, certified teacher and school counselor, as well as working for 16+ years with at-risk individuals, from four years to adult, allows me to treat a wide range of clients.

I utilize EMDR to help clients as well.
You're struggling with parts of your life right now and aren't sure what to do. Perhaps it's your relationships that are struggling; you may be in the middle of a life change or transition; you may be grieving. There may be other factors in your life which are creating problems. Perhaps you're struggling with addictive behavior; your past is affecting your present; a trauma may be clouding your life. You feel like you don't matter, that you aren't worthy of love. Nobody is listening and you can't figure out how to be heard.

I use tools such as Trust- Based Relational Intervention (TBRI), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Acceptance-Commitment Therapy (ACT), and more to help process the pain of their past, create hope in their tomorrow, and embrace the joy in their today.
One thing I have learned throughout my life is the human experience is vibrant and full of an array of experiences that leave a unique impact on each of us. While many of these experiences can lead us to joy, hope, strength, and resiliency, others can lead us to fear, anxiety, hopelessness, and isolation. Becoming lost in the latter can often lead us to feel as though we are seeing life through a monochromatic lens. It is as though we have lost sight of the vibrancy that motivates us and leads to joy throughout our lives.

I am a licensed clinical social worker, certified in EMDR and have advanced training to incorporate ego state and yoga skills in session.
Do you feel "stuck" in the past, destructive behavior patterns, or judge yourself harshly? Your mind races and you have to plan 10 steps ahead and still don't feel "ok!" Do you feel disconnected or overwhelmed by your mind or body and not able to live the life you want? Please call me, together we can gently begin the process of change and healing. It may feel impossible now, but I quite often reflect upon the following quote "...do the thing you think you cannot do" by Eleanor Roosevelt. In making this call you will find a place where you are valued and nurtured, to gently and compassionately begin your healing journey.

As such, my therapeutic style is rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing(EMDR)/Internal Family Systems(IFS).
Do you have difficulty maintaining focus and a piece of mind? Are you someone who appears to have it all together, but still find yourself experiencing unpredictable emotions, bouts of anxiety and depression that have strained your relationships? Do you have an internal fear that you will be exposed as broken? Trauma serves as a filter, a lens through which a person views the world. Everything is shaded differently. It can have you feeling like “What’s wrong with me?” and “I’ll never feel at home with myself” or “Why does life have to be this hard?”. So now you’re ready to make a change. You’re ready to feel relief.

I specialize in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Gottman Theory.
Many of the challenges we face come from traumatic events and other stressors. The environment where we live plays a significant role on many of the current problems we are encountering today. People raised in unsupportive environments face numerous difficulties because of not learning the necessary coping skills to manage different life stressors. Other challenges linked to living in an unhealth environment include attachment, trust, self-love, confidence, and safety issues. Living in an unsafe environment impact the way our brain manages daily stressors at school, work, and home.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
