I also utilize several therapeutic techniques including EMDR, mindfulness, CBT and DBT.
The client-therapist relationship is one of the most valuable elements of therapy. It is my pleasure to get to know each individual I work with and to form a relationship that allows them to feel supported and understood - there is such power in being heard. I like to collaborate with clients to brainstorm ways for them to achieve their goals in a realistic and attainable way, by highlighting each client's strengths, resilience and resources. I do my best to offer support wherever you are in your journey through life.

I am trauma endorsed, with certifications in DBT, tf-CBT, Gottman Couple Methods and EMDR theories.
Located in Peosta behind Jumble Coffee. Life and relationships can be challenging. Sometimes it takes new ideas and perspectives to feel empowered to change. In addition to adverse life events, falsely believing we are not good enough, feeling out of control and the fear rejection are common causes of anxiety. We get caught up in reaction of negative thoughts, feeling overwhelmed in addition to uncomfortable body sensations which cause us to overreact (anger) or underreact (avoidance). Whether individually or as a couple, taking that first step to healing is a step you don't have to take on your own.

I am also especially passionate about using my training in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR).
I have 16 years’ experience in social services, including 10 years engaged in adolescent and adult therapy. During that time, I’ve seen first-hand the impact depression, anxiety and trauma can have on child development, marriages, parenting and interpersonal skills in general. My approach to helping improve the connections in people’s lives starts with understanding their needs in a safe, judgement-free environment.

Life is full of adventures and hardships that all too often leave us feeling weak, broken, unloveable, ashamed, lost and alone. This journey can be incredibly challenging as well as isolating, especially when we struggle to find healthy support. I see my role as a counselor to be a supportive guide. Utilizing a non-judgmental and compassionate approach, I work to provide direction through safe exploration of feelings, thoughts and beliefs that interfere with healthy growth. I have a passion for assisting individuals in navigating the way to stability, self-love and wholeness.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
