Therapy seeks to address the patterns and unresolved material unique to each of us which hampers our ability to connect meaningfully with others and limits our capacity for joy. I work with couples and individuals looking to deepen their understanding of themselves and work collaboratively to cultivate curiosity, authenticity, honesty, self-compassion, and the ability to tolerate difficult feelings. I use a combination of gestalt therapy, psychodynamic therapy, relational therapy, EMDR, and somatic interventions when working with individuals. My couple’s work is mainly inspired by family systems theory and imago therapy.

I am also trained in EMDR as an additional tool to support clients in working through anxiety or processing trauma.
Finding a therapist can be a daunting process.  Although there are many great therapists out there, it does not necessarily mean that each one is the right fit for you. With the belief that the relationship between client and therapist is central to growth and healing, my style is nurturing, client centered, collaborative, and empowering.  I provide a safe and non-judgmental space to support my clients in becoming more grounded and connected to their whole and authentic self.

I am also trained in EMDR, a therapy that can be helpful for trauma-related concerns.
We all arrive to therapy with unique needs, hurts, and wishes. We may not even know what we are seeking, just that life is not feeling good. My goal as a therapist is to be a partner in the journey – we may not know the path, or even the destination. Therapy can help reveal forks in the road, grieve parts of the trail, or even give us the courage to trek on. We can process trauma and define what it means to heal. We can develop a greater sense of self and a deeper connection with others. My ideal client is someone who wants to learn about themselves, but maybe feels unsure of where to start.

Stepping into therapy can be an empowering step towards healing and growth. Many individuals seek therapy for a variety of reasons, such as depression, anxiety, phobias, relationship issues, and a lack of meaning in their lives. If you are driven to grow, develop, and explore your own path in life, then psychotherapy can be a powerful tool to help you live with higher levels of awareness and consciousness. I do integrate BrainSpotting and EMDR to help access parts of the brain that are difficult to reach through conventional therapy methods, allowing allowing for deeper healing and transformation in just a few sessions,

I use elements of my training in mindfulness, attachment, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, EMDR, and 12 Step Recovery models.
Looking for help with emotional obstacles? You may be carrying extra baggage, repeating unproductive thought or behavior patterns, and feeling stuck in life. Struggling with the negative effects of substance use? What if you could address these issues and make positive changes? How would it feel to accept yourself fully? To leave behind what is no longer serving you? To be creative and take risks that help you move forward? Confidently find ways to accommodate the new and different. Overcome obstacles and grow into the life you are meant to have.

I incorporate emerging concepts from neuroscience, attachment theory, mindfulness, and somatic methods, including EMDR, to promote full mind/body recovery.
I work primarily with clients who struggle due to early experiences that left a mark. Trauma. Trauma often deprives us of resources and skills needed to survive and flourish. So as adults, we end up "stuck" due to persistent depression and anxiety, emotional dysregulation (extreme mood swings), constant triggering of the fear system, and relationship concerns. I work with many clients struggling with- or recovering from- various forms of self-destruction or self-harm. As a Partner Trauma Specialist, I also work with clients who are Partners of Sex Addicts from a relational trauma perspective.

Using a combination of EMDR, psychodynamic and cognitive therapies, current issues are confronted and processed with letting go the result.
Personal crises can be difficult but they can also present opportunities for growth and change. This may not seem possible when you are in the middle of one. The path to getting back on track is challenging but can be rewarding. Therapy is hard work but the benefits are well worth the effort. Your crisis may be the catalyst, psychotherapy the vehicle, and the therapist your guide. My mission is to promote, inspire, and support healing and self-actualization; my goal is your personal transformation.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
