My name is Elizabeth DeAngelis and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in NYC. I earned my Ed.M at Columbia University in mental health counseling. I also received an MA in psychology and religion at Union Theological Seminary. At Union I received specialized training about clients' existential/spiritual concerns. My goal is to offer clients a safe space to process emotions without judgment. I want to help clients explore their past and present stressors to overcome blockages in life. I work with client's to explore their past attachment patterns and traumas to help address current relational patterns affecting their lives
I work mainly from a psychodynamic therapeutic framework which helps clients explore intrapsychic processes often affected by past relationships and traumas. However, I also do not believe therapeutic technique is one size fits all. I incorporate CBT/DBT skills to help clients improve thinking patterns, emotional regulation, and problem solving skills.
I believe a strong therapeutic alliance is central to effective psychotherapy. I see therapy as a collaborative process because it is through relationships we heal. I also am aware that sociopolitical context affects a client's life and take an intersectional feminist approach to therapy. I encourage clients to discuss different aspects of their identity.
