Have you ever said: "No one ever taught me how to be a parent or spouse?" Perhaps navigating the relationships at work is posing a challenge. I help clients look at patterns of communication and behaviors that aren't working and help them understand their origins. Together, we develop an understanding of what is causing the difficulties so that we may address them successfully. I've been a psychologist for 25 years, helping clients enhance their relationships with family members, friends and colleagues. While much of my work is with adults, I am also a child psychologist.
I work with parents of children whose intensity is due to a number of factors -- ADHD, learning differences, anxiety and even giftedness. These children present challenges not resolved by traditional parenting methods. We focus on strategies that increase collaboration between parent and child and diminish power struggles.
I help parents work with schools, advocate for their children and understand accomodations that might benefit their child. In addition to consulting with parents, I do play therapy with younger children. I also help parents work more effectively as a team. Children who are "twice exceptional" are also a specialty.
