I approach counseling as a mixture of all of my experiences that I have had, and with the knowledge and skills I have gained from my training and additional learning. I believe that the relationship we build in the counseling room is one that transcends the traditional media depiction of therapy- as your counselor my role is to help you explore your concerns, to help you find your own conclusions and make connections, and to help you utilize that new knowledge or those new skills to achieve whatever goals you set out to achieve.
When you meet with me, you are meeting a Black woman who is another human being navigating life alongside you. The foundation of my approach to counseling is as a curious co-conspirator, here to walk along you as you shake up your world and watch it settle into what you need.
As a counselor one of the values that I live by personally and professionally is integrity. Using integrity in the counseling relationship means not only being true to myself about who I am, what I bring into the room, and what I know - it also means creating a space where you as the client can be authentic.
