Experiencing relationship stress—whether in the form of codependency, gaslighting, intimate partner violence, or substance use/addiction—can significantly impact your everyday life. These situations often bring a multitude of emotions that we suppress to protect ourselves from discomfort. If this resonates with you, know that you are not alone. If you are uncertain about how to define your relationship but sense that something is not quite right, we can explore this together in a safe and supportive environment.

I look forward to all clients who are committed to making positive changes in their lives. I have experienced both domestic violence and sexual assault. I have trained specifically for those populations or anyone with TRAUMA. I I have an extensive medical background, so clients that need help navigating or understanding their diagnosis/options, I can help. I recognize that there are significant wait times for a therapist which can be discouraging. I am currently open and scheduling both in office and telehealth appointments. I want to positively impact every client I have the opportunity to serve.

I specialize in helping individuals who have experienced complex trauma, including Childhood/Adulthood abuse, such as unhealthy relationships, abandonment, sexual abuse, or family dynamic trauma.
Do you struggle with regulating your emotions, have a negative self-view, or notice that you struggle with maintaining relationships? Or maybe you recognize that you experience feelings of guilt, shame, and helplessness, while also struggling with anxiety, depression, or even dissociation. These symptoms often stem from exposure to trauma that has resulted in deep-rooted emotional and psychological wounds that may have come from experiencing an unhealthy relationship with a partner or a family member.

What if I told you that there was a way to heal some of those hurts just by giving yourself the space to talk about them out loud with a trained professional? My name is Gabby Mitchell, and I am a licensed clinical social worker who works with people whose lives have been negatively impacted by trauma, violence, sudden loss, and systemic oppression.
Do you ever feel as though no matter what you do, you just aren’t truly happy? You've been through hell and back, but still can’t seem to escape your past experiences. Or perhaps you experienced something really scary and messed up which continues to impact your ability to make it through the day. Maybe you're the one taking care of others, but never have time for yourself. Your friends may describe you as uptight, paranoid, and irritable, and sometimes you secretly may agree. You know that you could be nicer, or calmer, or give people the benefit of a doubt, but you are simply too stressed to handle it all.

Most clients come into therapy because of their current difficulty resolving a "presenting problem". That problem could be grief. It could be relationship troubles with partners, peers, or parents. It could be tied to substance abuse. Or trauma. Or both. It could be work-related. It could be a million things. Whatever the presenting problem, it tends to give the client physiological and psychological discomfort, which leads to the search for answers and relief, which often leads to counseling.

As a Trauma Therapist, my practice areas include: survivors of abuse, employment and/or school related issues, BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities.
My entire therapeutic practice is based on three words: I believe you. How often in life (both past and present) have individuals struggled with someone believing them? How easy it is to be judged and misunderstood. A lack of being believed, coupled with being both judged and misunderstood are often what create low self-esteem, depression, trauma, fear and anxiety: all of which can affect relationships, friendships, family life, work, school etc. With support, change and healing are realistic possibilities.

Domestic Abuse Therapists

What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?

Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognize that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.

When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?

Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.

What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?

Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?

It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
