Based on your goals, we will work together to figure out what components of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), or other modalities will best support what you are looking for in your therapeutic journey.
I consider it an honor to walk with people on their healing journeys, and would love to walk with you! My hope is that therapy can be an empowering experience, and we can work together in a safe space to find tools to help you live the life you want to. Reaching out for counseling can be a difficult decision, but you are so worth doing difficult things for!

My ideal client is someone who recognizes the importance of prioritizing their mental health and is motivated to actively engage in the therapeutic process. I most often use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy (EMDR), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), but am trained in other modalities.
Seeking out therapy can feel daunting. My work as a therapist is motivated by the understanding that everyone has skills to develop, past hurts to heal, and a strong side of them that has helped them through very difficult times. Everyone could use a supportive environment to grow.

Bored and have more free time and don't know what to do? Life transitions? Going to college? Low mood? Anxiety and worry? Stressors in life? I see adults individually who have struggled with anxiety, depression, trauma/ stress related events in their life. I can offer Tele-health options so you can feel safe going through the therapeutic process. My treatment approach is a lot more more person-centered. It can take some time to build trust within the therapeutic relationship.

I provide a safe environment in which I utilize evidence based modalities for treatment such as: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Prolonged Exposure, Motivational interviewing, Solution Focused Therapy, IFS, and Gottman Method techniques.
Life can often feel overwhelming and sometimes we find ourselves feeling depressed, anxious, and stuck. Although it can be hard making that first call, therapy can help. By sharing your thoughts, feelings, and experiences it can lead to a new perspective. This new perspective can improve our relationships with ourselves, others, and provide the balance that we may have been lacking. My specialty is helping individuals and couples struggling with: trauma/PTSD, anxiety, depression, personality disorders, hoarding, stress management, life transitions, co-dependency, and relationship concerns.

However, I also teach clients empirically support tools from CBT, DBT, and ACT approaches.
A few years ago, I moved from upstate New York to Appleton, Wisconsin. I'm loving life in the Midwest! I am happy to be licensed in both Wisconsin and New York. At this time, I am ONLY seeing clients virtually using a HIPAA-compliant app called Spruce for video-based telehealth sessions. As of January 2023, I’ve recently had a few client spaces open up. These openings are mostly during the work week hours, but I’d love to see if we’re a fit. I’m not accepting insurance directly, but many of my clients are able to receive reimbursement by submitting my superbill to their insurance.

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
