I use therapies such as CBT, DBT & MI.
Everyone has their capacity for happiness and I want to help you find it. Happiness comes from creating connection to ourselves, our environments, our purpose, and others. I help adults looking for assistance in improving their lives and breaking through old patterns of behaviors. I help those looking for direction, purpose, and answers to questions about their experiences. People ask themselves why they keep having the same things happen over and over in their life, I can help figure out those patterns and help to eliminate them so that you can move forward.

Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression, PTSD, or addiction, exploring how to calm the body in order to sort out the mind can help you feel in control. Through our work together we can explore strategies, in addition to talk therapy, such as breathwork (lifeforce yoga), sitting with discomfort (DBT & somatic experiencing) and developing a growth mindset (CBT, DBT, & EMDR) to assist you with managing the challenges you experience.

Trauma can affect anyone over the course of their lifetime. Dealing with difficult feelings and experiences can be challenging, but with the right tools, you can manage your symptoms, reclaim your sense of self, and move toward living your best life. The choice to begin therapy can be the first step toward finding relief. My name is Kelly, and I'd be honored to be your therapist. I strive to view my practice through the lenses of cultural competence, progressive social values, a systems perspective, and the Sanctuary Model, among other theories

Have you struggled with mindfulness or meditation? Do you find that sometimes your emotions drive your decisions? Do you want to improve your life but don't know where to start?

My outlook on therapy is based on the principle that we as humans are always changing and growing. Throughout life, we all face obstacles or challenges that we must work through in order to reach our optimal self. My goal through therapy is to process current and past experiences in order to grow and identify how they impact the present and future. I use Gestalt, Strengths-Based, Person-Centered, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) approaches in my work to shape positive thinking and increase awareness. I strive to create a safe, empowering environment where you can learn and grow.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
