I use a variety of modalities based on your unique needs, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, aspects of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Solutions-Focused Therapy.
Hi! I'm Brenna, a Licensed Social Worker dedicated to a holistic and strengths-based approach to healing. When those lows start to overshadow the highs, and stress, anxiety, depression or feeling overwhelmed become constant companions, know it's okay to seek support. Navigating relationships, school and work pressures, and finding your place in the world can be daunting. There is a path forward filled with support, understanding, and empowerment. Therapy isn't about fixing what's "wrong" with you; it's about embracing who you are and empowering you to become who you want to be.

What are you looking to change in your life? Whether calming anxiety, decreasing depression, or managing behavior. For instance, angry outbursts or overreacting to a change and wishing later how you would love a second try? Perhaps it's nothing like these examples that brings you here.

I have many years of experience working with individuals who struggle with mental health and addiction problems. I use a skill-based approach to treatment called dialectical behavioral therapy. This type of treatment focuses on learning how to live in the moment, manage interpersonal relationships effectively, handle life's challenges with grace and competence, and understand and deal with feelings in constructive ways. Using my training and diagnostic knowledge I will develop a comprehensive treatment plan that emphasizes relapse prevention and living a life worth living. I work with a team of other mental health professionals including psychiatrists, and counselors.

I always use a trauma-informed model to ensure comfort and safety in my sessions, taking inspiration from other modes of therapy like Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Narrative Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, and Structural Family Therapy, while maintaining a Person-Centered focus.
Life can be really messy and challenging at times, and we don't need to walk through it alone. My hope is to walk beside you as we face these difficulties that occur and empower you to use the strength within to overcome your hurdle. Whatever you may be healing from - traumatic experiences, substance use, relational issues, anxiety, depression, or difficult family dynamics - I am positive we can find strength to navigate the path forward.

Through evidence-based practices, such as, Motivational Interviewing, Trauma Informed Care, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Seeking Safety and Integrated Dual Diagnosis Treatment.
I have often explained the following analogy to motivate my patients to thrive: Replenish Your Well. The well water represents your resiliency; your ability to manage and respond appropriately to your environmental stressors. The bucket represents environmental and/or life stressors. Life is going to take buckets of water out of your well. Many people experience numerous life stressors, such as, financial problems, interpersonal relationship stressors, anxiety, depression, mood instability, etc.

Perhaps you have been thinking about moving towards the life you want for some time, but you are anxious or struggling with the burdens of the past. Anxiety, depression, and trauma can weigh you down. If you want to transform your life, if you want to be more present in your life, if you want to be more mindful, if you want to live a life filled with compassion for yourself and others, seeking me out might work for you. I focus on listening to you first, honoring your experiences without judgment, then helping you build transformative practices and connections that can change the direction of your life.

I employ techniques of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT), motivational interviewing (MI), as well as others to customize my practice to your symptoms.
I believe that therapy needs to be personalized to the individual and the goals that you have for yourself. Therapy is also a partnership between the therapist and the client. I often compare my view of therapy to a GPS; with you in the driver's seat, you select the destination you'd like to reach, and I'll help figure out a way to get us there. Empathy and therapeutic rapport are a foundation in my approach to practice; I have a genuine interest and investment in the lives of those that I work with, having compassion in all our interactions, while at the same time, also challenging you to work towards growth.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
