This eclectic approach is rooted in Cognitive Behavioral (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness, Person-Centered, and Strength-Based modalities.
I enjoy working with teens, young adults, and adults to improve mental wellbeing as they navigate anxiety or depression. My goal is to equip and empower individuals to conquer the mental challenges (anxiety, depression, adjustments to life events, trouble with self-confidence) that inevitably hinder peak potential. I am passionate about providing mental and emotional skill development for greater regulation of overall mental and physical health. I also work with student-athletes to improve performance and wellbeing both in and out of sport.

Hello, I am so glad you are here! Getting help can often be scary, overwhelming, and confusing. It is normal to feel these emotions when navigating your mental health. Through the use of evidence-based therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, DBT, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, I work with each client to address their goals and specific needs. During sessions, I allow my clients to set an intention for their session and create a safe, calm, and client focused environment.

I have already counseled my ideal client. I worked with a client who came to me in her most significant time of need. She was ready to put in work and wanted to develop. She was diagnosed with Bipolar I and had several suicide attempts. She could externalize her mania and use fitness and wellness to push through her episodes. She is happy and healthy and uses her experiences to help others. My services involve psychotherapy using techniques such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and motivational interviewing (MI), with a trauma-informed framework.

My road to counseling has been long, as are most roads to worthwhile places. I first went to school to be a physician assistant, and I’ve been doing family medicine since 2008, with a particular interest in mental health and addictions. I later went back to school for mental health counseling (2018), and then again for addictions counseling (2022). I still do some family medicine, as well as working in psychiatric emergencies, and doing individual counseling. I work with teens and adults, and I often start with DBT or parts work (IFS), although I have been trained in and use other modalities as well.

Hello! Thank you for visiting my page and taking that first step. A little about me: I am trained in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), Writing Exposure Therapy (WET), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) for individuals, and have utilized Solution-Focused Brief Therapy for couples. If you prefer a Biblical approach, I am comfortable with Christian counseling as well. Finally, if you have experienced a trauma that you need help in healing, yet do not wish to talk about it in deep detail, ART and WET can be utilized to minimize the re-telling of your painful history. Whatever it is that brought you here, I'd be honored to help.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
