For me, there is no ideal client. I accept my clients for who they are when they walk through my door. I believe counseling does not have to be reserved for when problems arise or for only "big" problems. The client is who decides what goals are important and my job is to allow the space for them to achieve them. I work with a range of ages, specializing in Child-Centered Play Therapy. Child-centered play therapy is not only for children. The principles of the practice can be applied to any age as it encourages building self-esteem, decision making, and utilizing an individual's own problem solving ability.
Play is a natural language that children speak universally. When children, or even adults, are given the space to act out and communicate through play then a new world is opened to communicate even the most difficult of experiences and feelings. I offer a safe space for experiences to be rewritten and negative feelings to be resolved through talk or play.
I hold the belief that every individual is capable of living each day without the burden of the past. Children are sometimes held back due to feelings they are unable to communicate.
