I am knowledgeable about anxiety, depression, and trauma related to contexts from relational disruptions to totalitarian systems of power.
I work with people who want to explore social isolation and confusion due to current social issues, body image and gender, relational wounding, disconnect, life transitions, aging, stress and trauma; people who experience symptoms medically otherwise unexplained (brain fog, fatigue) that build on unique neurophysiological patterns of reaction to stress; and also adult immigrants to the US to guide them through the challenging transitions they encounter and to explore their sociocultural identities within the present context of their life and their culture of origin.

I work best with people experiencing depression and anxiety, relationship issues, uncertainty, religious or spiritual crises.
I believe the client is the expert. You know your self better than anyone. You know how you feel when life happens, you know what frustrates you and what makes you angry. You know what is upsetting and what makes you sad, and you know when something isn't right or that something is off. The problem is that sometimes you don't know why, and if you don't know why, you can't fix it. I take an approach that starts with uncovering what you believe, because so much of what you believe becomes reality whether it's through our behavior or through some kind of a self fulfilling prophecy.

People want to find meaning and direction in their lives. Yet, sometimes this can be obscured by intrusive thoughts, whether from stress, anxiety and/or depression. This, in turn, can result in behaviors that keep people from living their most fulfilled life. My passion is helping people live more meaningful lives. I have broad experience helping with people who have trauma, anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, self-harm, low self-esteem, life transitions, and substance use disorders. Although I offer services to all ages, I primarily work with teens and adults.

My role will never be to tell you what to do; rather we will work together to find the perfect solution for you. I accept clients from all backgrounds, identities, and cultures. I have a warm welcome for those of the LGBTQ+ community along with open relationship structures/polyamory. Areas of most experience include anxiety, depression, OCD, addiction (harm reduction model, preferably). No area or challenge is too small or seemingly too insignificant in which to engage in therapy. Clients will be successful when they come with an open mind, a willingness to be vulnerable, while also being provided their own pace and comfort.

Hello! I'm Evan Davies, I specialize working with substance use, anxiety, depression, and trauma. Alongside my specialties I have a knack for helping people that go to therapy feeling ambivalent as to what they're looking for, what they're struggling with or how to describe it. I want everyone to know that they're welcomed. Finding a therapist that you feel is a good fit and just therapy in of itself can be difficult. Being aware of that helps me strive to meet people where they're at, modify my approach accordingly and help with any barriers during the onboarding process.

I specialize in the areas of depression, anxiety, life adjustment, thought disorders, mood disorders, grief and loss, and relationship issues.
There are many reasons that people decide to seek counseling. Everyone experiences change, loss, life transitions, and challenges at some time in their lives; however, navigating our thoughts and feelings can become overwhelming to try and address alone. Therapy can provide a supportive environment that is safe, nonjudgemental, and accepting.

I would encourage anyone who struggles with Depression, Anxiety, PTSD, Sexual dysfunction, ADHD, Addictions, personality disorders, body image problems, and grief and loss.
It can be difficult to talk about mental health and illness. Sometimes we feel as though no one is truly listening when we ask for help. Whether you are struggling to push back against overwhelming despair, fears of tomorrow, or crushing sadness due to loss, I am listening. If it is your own, private journey or perhaps difficulties with a relationship, I am listening. Maybe you aren't sure what is real and what isn't, or maybe you feel trapped in a body that is not you, I am listening. Perhaps you have been shunned or turned away by friends and family simply because of who you are. I am listening.

Depression Therapists

What is the goal of therapy for depression?

Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognize and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?

Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?

Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioral activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?

Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?

Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
