I specialize in depression, anxiety and trauma, and the use of alternative psychotherapy approaches. (However, I do offer traditional approaches). These new psychotherapies are body-centered and mindfulness-based. In other words, we are more than our thoughts - we are our sensations, feelings and that something which is greater than the self, the transpersonal. These new psychotherapies work directly with client's moment to moment awareness of what is felt or sensed within the body. These felt sensed experiences are then processed through cognition which then allow for the opportunity of insight, change and healing.
The body-centered, mindfulness-based psychotherapy approaches include Internal Family Systems (IFS), Eye Movement Desensitization Response (EMDR), Life Force Yoga level 1 & Brain Spotting. I am a meditator of 40 years, and teach clients, individually and in groups how to use meditation to decrease stress and find better quality of life.
I offer two 8 week meditation series called "Pranayama (Yogic Breath) & the Practice of Mindfulness Meditation in the fall & early winter. The next meditation series will be in the fall of 2024. The series is virtual. For the most recent updates go to my web site, go to "programs."

Groups
Pranayama (Yogic breath) & Practice of Mindfulness
Drawing from the work of Jon Kabat-Zinn, Insight Meditation and meditation from the yogic tradition called "pranayama," Denise teaches 6-8 week meditation series . Using both discussion and experiential approaches, she guides and supports participants as they explore breath, body awareness, meditation and mindfulness. Topics of discussion include - establishment of a sit-down meditation practice, integrating meditation practices into daily life, understanding the different meditation techniques and how they are beneficial. Other meditation practices are walking meditation and loving-kindness meditation The course includes a weekly e-mail with hand-outs of all the meditation practices from each class.
