I work with people troubled by mood or anxiety problems, and friends or family who help them through the rough spots, sometimes referred to as caregivers. During the pandemic, mental health needs have increased exponentially, with clients seeking help with stress reduction, coping and relationship skills. I provide help for people with stress-related problems, and for those coping with lifetime problems, such as bipolar disorder or major depression. I work with caregivers to improve communication and empathy for the partner or family member. I also work with groups, where clients where clients learn and feel supported by others.
My experience with psychodynamic, skills and family-based treatments allows me to employ the approach that best fits clients’ needs. I offer a “caregiver-only” intervention that builds caregiving skills and wellness. I have found that working with caregivers alone for even 12 sessions facilitates improvement in both caregiver and family member mental health.
Many people feel alone and long to be accepted and understood. Caregivers and those with mental health problems feel stigmatized and neglect their health & mental health in their efforts to help others or due to feelings of hopelessness. I offer psychotherapy sessions as safe spaces to explore these feelings and work towards facilitating positive change.

Caregivers of persons with mood disorders
Caregivers often focus exclusively on their relative and ignore their own health and well-being. I use education, goal setting/monitoring, and skills training to improve relationship with person they care for AND to promote health, wellness and life beyond caregiving. CBT format informed by psychodynamics. I have found that even 12 sessions with caregivers alone improves mental health for both caregiver and their relative.
