Hello and Welcome! What an honor to have you take this courageous step toward finding a therapist. Are you dealing with overwhelming life challenges? Do you experience the pressures of modern life? Do you experience loneliness? In your day-to-day life, do you ever feel uneasy? What about when it comes to your job? Do you find it difficult to establish boundaries and say “no”? Even if you are aware that changes are a natural part of life, do you find it difficult to adapt to any changes? Do you feel unsure of yourself and struggle to make decisions?

All of us experience times in our lives when a little help is needed. Perhaps now, it is a period of time in your life that is emotionally difficult, a death or loss you are grieving, struggles with depression or anxiety, problematic relationships, or just want to work on personal growth. Perhaps you need a sympathetic, nonjudgmental ear with someone whom you can trust. I hope you can find that person in me. I take a very personalized approach using expensive techniques often not found with other practitioners such as EMDR and hold a Fellow of Thanatology from the Association of Death Education and Counseling.

I believe that every individual has the right to live a full and satisfying life. Sometimes things get in the way, such as a history of trauma, unresolved grief, family difficulties, or just "everyday" stressors which feel overwhelming. You may be searching for a therapist because you do not feel as fulfilled or content with life as you could. You may be looking for help for a loved one, such as a child or a spouse. Contacting a therapist is the first step toward a journey of healing. I encourage you to take that step today.

In my practice, I look to build a strong and trusting rapport with clients. We are then able to work together on identifying potential sources of life stressors as well as strengths. In exploring these areas, clients are able to identify and modify previous patterns of behavior in order to achieve their full potential personally, academically, and/or vocationally.

I specialize in working with young adults, particularly those in their early 20s who are grappling with anxiety, depression, and related challenges. If you’re between the ages of 18 and 32 and find yourself overwhelmed by anxious thoughts, sadness, stress, trauma, or low self-esteem, you’ve come to the right place. Life can be incredibly intense at this stage, and it’s easy to feel lost or burdened by negative emotions. Anxiety and depression can make even the simplest tasks feel insurmountable. They can drain your energy, cloud your judgment, and leave you feeling disconnected from the world around you.

Seeking help for your mental health is the most important decision that you will make in your life with long-lasting results. It is my vision that everyone should live free of judgment, distress, discomfort, and free of emotional turmoil. As a society, we have become conditioned to sit in our lives, to accept our circumstances, however unpleasant they are. Therapy can help overcome those circumstances. Together this can be achieved. I will stick by you and help you live the life you want. I use motivational interviewing techniques, CBT methods and my therapeutic modality is based on a psychodynamic /psychoanalytic foundation.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
