In therapy, the focus inevitably turns to the balance between self and others. Being responsible for one's own needs while being responsive to others, whether in a relationship, school, or at work is a dynamic, and sometimes confounding, process. How do you find that balance, being true to oneself and a truely caring person? That's the work of therapy.
I work with individuals, couples, families, and students. I have a recognized expertise with severe psychological trauma, depression, anxiety, and marital problems including infidelities.
I am proud to have been twice highly recommended by Washingtonian Magazine.

No matter how much you do, that inner-voice insists, “you could be doing more.” You convince yourself you just need to work harder. Then you’ll finally feel that sense of accomplishment. But the more you do, the louder the voice gets. The weight of the constant stress is exhausting. The tension headache at the base of your skull won’t go away. You can’t control your emotions–the other day you blew up at your best friend. Your mother keeps calling; she’s worried about you. You’ve sacrificed so much, but don’t know what it’s all for. This can’t go on.

As a clinical social worker, I work from a strengths-based, person-centered, and deeply collaborative perspective. We become a team in your therapy journey. My approach to therapy is integrative, and I draw from cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, and humanistic frameworks to support individual needs and goals. I also believe humor can play an important role in the therapeutic process. Clients work hard in therapy, and moments of levity can help reframe and normalize struggles in a positive or relieving manner.

My therapeutic viewpoint is that all clients can change if they have a supportive therapist in a therapeutic environment that is conducive to change. Additionally, they must have the desire to change, set goals, and work on the skills needed outside of the counseling session to create lasting change.
