I'm trained in DBT, CBT, mindfulness, ACT, EFT, CPT, and PE, and I work from an integrative approach.
I love working with couples and individuals with difficulty in romantic relationships (i.e. sexual issues, communication, infidelity, divorce), adults who come from dysfunctional childhoods, as well as those with anxiety, impulsivity, and addiction. I also enjoy working with those in non-traditional romantic relationships (i.e. ethically non-monogamous, polyamorous). I am LGBTQIA- affirming and sex positive. I work best with clients who are engaged, thoughtful, and motivated for change. My style is empathic and direct, with a sense of humor. I believe strongly in the therapeutic alliance and the client/therapist fit.

I draw from CBT, MBSR, ACT, attachment based, somatic and humanistic therapeutic modalities to improve your quality of life and help you achieve your personal goals.
Choosing a mental health provider can feel daunting. I am experienced in treating adults with a range of mental health challenges including anxiety, depression, trauma, and life stressors such as relationship and work difficulties. I also specialize in helping clients and their loved ones cope with medical conditions such as pain, insomnia, and cancer, as well as other physical illnesses or disabilities.

Time and again, the same struggles can show up in relationships or at work. I know how hard it is to break the cycle. Other times, events and life changes challenge our ability to cope and accomplish what we need. Healing and self-discovery are possible in a safe and supportive therapy relationship. My goal is to help you create a rich and meaningful life and better navigate life's challenges. I work with folks facing a range of issues, with a specialty in trauma, burnout, relationship issues and eco-anxiety/climate grief. Welcome! I am a Psychologist offering psychotherapy through secure videochat, or Telehealth in CA, VA, MD, DC. This is a convenient and effective way to get the help you need on your schedule where you're comfortable. For more information, see my web page (https://drjeffreymann.com/telehealth/). Frequently the events of our lives get to the point where we feel like so much of our energy is being wasted simply trying to "keep it together". I'm not a believer in magic cures, but there is A LOT than can be done to address the ways we think and behave in our everyday lives that can have a profound impact on our satisfaction with life.

I've built a small, boutique practice that gives each client the time and access they need to a psychologist. You won't be one of 35 clients seen in a week, which is typical in most practices. Instead you will have a dedicated, compassionate psychologist provide you the most evidence-based psychological therapy, coaching, or consultation. This practice is ideal for busy professionals, executives, attorneys, tech leaders, and adolescents with complex needs. I cap my panel to 21 clients a week so each client gets what they need and deserve. I currently can practice telepsychology across the country in 40 states.

Now accepting new Aetna clients! Being a human can be really hard sometimes. Maybe it’s hard because there’s an area in our lives where we struggle, like in our careers or relationships. Perhaps, we’ve experienced some painful times that we haven’t fully healed from or find ourselves engaging in problematic behaviors. Whatever our struggles, I’ve found that psychotherapy can help reduce our suffering and help connect us to the joy of being alive.

2020 has been a tough year as we face this challenging time in our history. We’ve had to grapple with the longevity of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and the uncertainty it brings. Challenges, which are further confounded by a complicated and divisive political climate make this a time of grief, trauma, loss, and difficult transitions for many. Physical distancing measures, forced adoption of new technology, and disruption of our routines, though necessary to reduce the spread of COVID-19, bring additional struggles with preventing isolation, remaining engaged with social supports, and coping with stress and anxiety. Please talk with a provider if you are finding yourself overwhelmed or if you are experiencing changes in sleeping, eating, or irritability, whether or not your challenges can be explained by current situations We have immediate openings for therapy and medication management appointments.

My clients often reach out for help when they've hit a breaking point with feeling overwhelmed. Anxiety can take on a number of forms; I hear a lot about racing heartbeat, spirals of "what if" thoughts, replaying painful memories over and over, feeling on edge a lot of the time, and having trouble going to events or leaving home. These things can affect sleep, relationships, and the ability to enjoy life. Whether you've experienced trauma, are going through big life changes, or just noticed that you're not really feeling like yourself lately - you're here because it's time to talk to someone.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
