A trusting and confidential relationship is the foundation for therapy, reducing emotional pain, increasing motivation for change and developing strengths. Through talk therapy we identify values, become aligned with those values as a guide towards health and move from isolation to connection. My style of counseling is centered in the science of being, creating a safe space, and using evidence-based practices. My target is emotional health with a particular emphasis on the unique experience of Black/Afrikan American Men and becoming better for ourselves and our families.
The core of my practice centers on self-awareness, self-discovery and personal growth. We are able to learn more about ourselves when we hear ourselves speak. This is facilitated through reflective deep thought of personal experiences, personal relationships, community and systems. My approach is as iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.
Mental health counseling is a great first step to untangle difficult thoughts and experiences. It is also a wonderful next step to becoming better than our current circumstances which may already be good. The goal is awareness, connection and then moving with purpose on life's journey with better ways of handling the vicissitudes of living. We can do it.
