Psychoanalysis provides the most in-depth, long-lasting treatment. Ideal for the person who has tried medications and briefer therapies unsuccessfully. Like exercise and the violin, concentrated long work is required for lifelong growth in the ability to love, work and play, while containing suffering, loss and uncertainty. Psychoanalysis seeks to get at the underlying roots of problems and their meanings beginning in infancy and childhood, as they play out in the here and now of the therapy, and in recurrent problematic
