*PRACTICE CURRENTLY FULL* I am an experienced, licensed psychologist in private practice, and on faculty at Harvard Medical School, and Massachusetts Institute for Psychoanalysis. I work with adults and older adolescents struggling with depression, anxiety, and relationship problems. I never underestimate the complexities of the mind, personality, and the unconscious dynamics inherent in relationships. At the same time, I feel psychotherapy should be practical. I have a thoughtful, compassionate style in addressing the roots of repetitive distress, while keeping in mind that such work must also ameliorate more immediate distress.
I believe the sources of distress can be complex, but that whatever you feel, think or do, occurs for understandable reasons. I enjoy working empathically and non-judgmentally to make sense of what might otherwise feel unsettled, shameful, or conflictual. This process usually makes relationships smoother, and life more satisfying.
Within the first few sessions of therapy, you should have the sense that you are being understood, and feel that we are on the same page, with a sense of hope. If this is not the case, I will help you find someone with whom you feel a better fit.
