My journey began in the 1990s, working with traumatized children through art, dance, and music, and evolved through training in neurofeedback and neuroscience. I hold dual master’s degrees in Mental Health Counseling and Expressive Arts Therapy, and a doctoral degree in Somatic Depth Psychology. My research focuses on healing historical trauma in indigenous communities by reconnecting with traditional cultures. My professional background spans diverse settings including hospitals, jails, schools, and community treatment centers, allowing me to support individuals across a broad spectrum of ages, backgrounds, and needs.

I come alongside clients to support them in their healing journey. My job is to help my clients remember the connection they have lost with their bodies. When we were babies we were fully in touch with our needs and feelings. Because of participation in society and woundings of various forms (including social, physical, emotional, environmental, spiritual, relational, familial, etc.) we have disconnected from our bodies (our information centers). In session I support clients by creating a safe container for them to reconnect with themselves. A caterpillar uses pieces of earth to create a cocoon to transform into a moth.

Do you feel like you’re spinning your wheels and not making the forward progress you know your life needs? Are there areas in your life you feel are problematic, or do you struggle with feelings of emptiness, shame, and isolation? Often, it is the "day in and day out" of these painful emotions that keep us from living our lives to the fullest. “Figuring out a way to work with how your brain works is your responsibility. But how your brain works is not your fault.” ― Charlie Peterson, Bioethicist

My primary intention is to offer support and gui dance for those in need of healing, including couples.
Evolution can be messy. Healing and growth are non-linear processes which may feel challenging at times. A holistic approach to healing ensures that we are addressing all facets of the human experience, creating a space to discover our truest and most authentic selves, even when it feels like a hurdle. Dr. Seuss (Theodore Geisel) put it best, “Sometimes the questions are complicated and the answers are simple.” I aim to make therapy a safe container where those questions can be explored, either one-on-one in an individual therapy session, or for couples, in a joint session.

Many times in our lives we are driven by the pain of past events which can sometimes lead us to feel and believe that we have lost our way. Yet, the truth is that we can live within a new paradigm! How are you showing up for yourself today? I have worked with youth and adults in a variety of capacities as well as prenatal and postnatal care. Much of my experience has been working alongside those who are faced with issues of anger, general and acute stress, PTSD, anxiety, and depression. I have a deep understanding of the nuances of trauma and generational trauma & sociocultural contexts and constructs (racism, sexism, xenophobia).

You have become a mom, your child is not older than 3, and you feel lost, sad, alone, rageful, misunderstood or even feel you don't know who you are anymore. Nobody told you that motherhood could be so overwhelming. However, you are certain that you don't want to hurt your child in the same ways you were hurt as a kid. All you want is to become the mother you anticipated to be for your child, but how?

I work with those who are experiencing significant life transitions or desire a life change. Whether it be a new job, birth of a child, relationship issues, death of a loved one, becoming of age or integrating a ceremony, they are seeking support in navigating these life events and their emotions to become whole. Through art, earth and somatic practices, I support others to gain the tools to feel and explore their true expression, connect to their body and purpose, embrace confidence, communicate effectively in relationships, breakthrough limiting beliefs or destructive patterns, integrate their experiences, and live authentically.

Do you long for a fuller expression of your true self? Do you need support to make changes in your life? Do you underestimate your capacities? Do you need encouragement and gui dance to claim these capacities? Through the many years in the field of Psychotherapy and Coaching I am aware that having a witness and guide for our process can be very beneficial.
Life is an ongoing process of aligning with our true authentic self. Without that alignment life can feel barren and meaningless. We feel stuck and unable to realize our visions and dreams. Yet, the capacity of the human spirit for creative and intuitive development is truly unlimited. Most of us however, use only a small fraction of that capacity. Through self-reflection and personal exploration we can gain an understanding of what limits this capacity.

I am passionate about working with people who are ready to be free of the false beliefs about who they are and to connect with the love and wisdom and light that lives within. As we learn to break the identification with what we are not, we access freedom. As part of this journey, I believe humor is critically important. Taking ourselves and life a little less seriously supports letting go. My first published book, Stress Free in 30 Seconds is subtitled "A Slightly Irreverent Approach to Navigating Life's Challenges" and that, I believe, is what it's all about.

Your relationship is stressed or you're looking for one, you're restless in your career or you're searching for meaning. Your self-care has taken backseat to busyness and life has become about being mother, wife, or caretaker. You're feeling stagnant, uninspired, and worried the world is passing you by. Waking up in the morning and looking forward to your day seems like a distant reality. You want to change but feel paralyzed by uncertainty. It feels too hard on your own to get clear with what's missing in your relationship, your career, and your life or where to begin to make lasting, meaningful change that feels worth the effort.

Dance Movement Therapy

What can I expect from dance/movement therapy?

During dance therapy, the therapist will guide the client through dance movements that metaphorically represent a particular challenge, reflect their internal emotional state, or otherwise express physically what is happening for the client mentally. The therapist may “mirror” the client’s movements or simply observe. The client may be encouraged, as they dance, to pay attention to their breath or other physical sensations. Afterward, the therapist and client will often debrief to help the client process the experience.

Is dance/movement therapy evidence-based?

A small body of research has found that dance therapy can help treat conditions like depression, PTSD, anxiety, and eating disorders, as well as nonclinical issues like low self-esteem or family conflict. However, some experts caution that the evidence in favor of dance therapy is not as robust as that of other, more established therapies, and some of the published research is of low quality. Many recommend that dance therapy be used as a complementary rather than stand-alone treatment.

Can dance therapy help with depression?

Some research suggests that dance/movement therapy can aid in the treatment of depression, especially when combined with other therapies; some studies, for example, report that dance therapy combined with antidepressants or talk therapy is more effective than those treatments alone. The positive effects of dance therapy may come from the movement itself, as it’s well-known that physical activity can improve mood and bolster motivation in those struggling with depression.

What are the limitations of dance therapy?

People with disabilities or other conditions that hinder movement may find it more challenging to participate in dance therapy, though a well-trained therapist will take a client’s physical limitations into account when designing a treatment plan. Experts also warn that certain conditions, particularly eating disorders, should never be treated with dance therapy alone; it may, however, be used as an adjunct therapy.
