My introduction to mental health was through my own sobriety (31 years as of now). I experienced anxiety, depression and all the trappings that come with surviving addiction. I began to volunteer and found that I wanted to work in this field. I am a Marine Corps Veteran and retired from federal service to pursue private practice last year. I am married to a saint of a woman for 33 years (in a row), have one son and daughter in law who have given us two wonderful granddaughters.
I employ Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help clients overcome their challenges and gain strength to pursue their life’s ambition. I use simple, pragmatic methods to mitigate stress, anxiety and depression caused by their life events. Trauma, substance abuse, failed or failing relationships and burnout are good examples.
My style focuses on empowerment. Clients come to therapy feeling as if parts of their lives are a bit “out of control”. Mutually agreed upon methods help give a person back that sense of control. My clients receive empathy, validation and practical interventions on their way to discovering strengths that promote a healthy and empowered self.
