My clients are stuck in certain patterns of behavior or thought that prevent them from living fuller more rewarding lives. They want to get unstuck.
I am a family systems therapist. I take a full history and am looking for what survival skills they have learned at a very young age to survive that family (I call it their garden) that they got thrown into,e.g.always being the caretaker. I help them understand how that limits their adult life and help them try to add new ways of being and thinking.
I am 86 years old and still working part time, only on telehealth which I find surprisingly intimate. I love my job to be both a supporter and gentle pusher. I have learned much from working with Dr.Martha Stark at Harvard. You might want to look at a fun, illustrated book I just published called Simple Therapy Snippets which is available on Amazon.
