There's a joke that goes like this: a client was 10 minutes late for a session. When she arrived, she profusely apologized for being late. Maintaining poise, the therapist responded, "No problem. You're only late for your first session." Oftentimes I see clients who probably should have come in 2 years earlier than they did. During that time, they slog it though days and nights where getting out of bed is an achievement. My view is if you're already in pain, it's time to cash it in and get something for it. I've been there myself and have benefitted from the techniques that you and I will do together.
I could say that I specialize in cognitive behavioral, solution-focused, and existential therapies, but all in all it boils down to what needs to be added in one's life and what needs to be removed. We all have potential, but we have to see if it's going in the right direction.
Therapy is a bold undertaking, but staying where we are could cost us more. We have only one life and this is no dress rehearsal.
