This can be especially effective in working with chronic illness, end of life issues, and the special concerns of older adults.
I have been in practice for over twenty years, focusing on women's issues, depression' anxiety, grief and loss, and life transitions. I work primarily but not exclusively with women and adults. I use a holistic approach and believe healing takes place when mind, body and spirit are in sync.

I am pursuing my Master's degree in Trauma-Focused Social Work from Simmons University. I developed a deep passion for working with bereaved families and individuals processing trauma, grief, and traumatic loss during my Undergraduate degree. My eclectic approach draws from attachment theory and family systems theory as I believe our early experiences shape who we are, and together, we can choose which parts of our past to leverage for growth. I am culturally competent in South Asian culture and HIV/AIDS culture, and I am an LGBTQIA+ ally and make a dedicated effort to embrace cultural identity as a core part of my practice.

As an Associate Clinical Professor at Yale Department of psychiatry, I have been practicing psychotherapy for over 20 years. My therapeutic approach is to help individuals and couples better understand the conflicts in their life and find healthy ways to resolve or cope with them tapping into their strengths and their social support. In addition to my private practice, I have been working at the Department of Veterans Affairs for many years as a supervisory psychologist and I have published extensively in the field. I have also supervised and trained psychologists and psychiatrists in psychotherapy both in the US and abroad.

Although I provide therapy for all adults 18+, my specialty is focused on the issues and needs of mid-life and older adults.
We all need someone to talk to. It's never too late to seek help, reflect, and pursue change within ourselves. Life can become more complicated as we continue our journey. Dealing with life transitions, coping with important relationships, sadness over losses, or adjusting to the changes around us can cause a great deal of stress. Sifting through your life story is a brave and important task and taking that first step to seeking counseling is a courageous one. Allow me to support and provide you with the strategies to help you navigate through life's challenges.

Whatever challenges life has brought you, it helps to have the support of a therapist and the power of music to help you through it. Music is a transformative and universal tool that has been accompanying humans on our paths for millennia, capable of clearing blocks, bringing insight, healing wounds, and opening new possibilities. No music experience is necessary to engage in music therapy; you need only a willingness to explore. I offer a holistic and humanistic approach; I believe the problems you are facing should be understood in the context of your full being, and that working from a foundation of full acceptance is essential.

As you embark on your therapeutic journey, the first two questions I will ask are, "What do you hope to gain from our time together?" and "Why now?". Many people have intermingled hopes and fears of therapy, but my goal is to create a safe space for you to move toward your psychological health. I want to understand the challenge that has brought you here and what you hope to achieve through therapy as we build trust and rapport.

Dementia Therapists

What are the first-line treatment options for Alzheimer’s disease?

The first-line treatment for Alzheimer’s disease is often medication, which may be prescribed based on the severity of the disease. These include cholinesterase inhibitors, memantine, or a combination of the two. Behavioral treatments can help people cope with emotional distress, such as anxiety or anger, and explore lifestyle changes related to housing, caregiving, sleep, and finances.

When to seek treatment for Alzheimer’s?

It’s best to seek treatment at the first signs of dementia. Early warning signs of Alzheimer’s include memory problems, such as forgetting appointments or directions, as well as trouble concentrating, paying attention, retrieving words, and carrying out daily household tasks. An early diagnosis can help people slow the progression of the disease with treatment and plan for the future in terms of housing, support, finances, and legality.

Are there specific medications to treat Alzheimer’s?

Medications approved by the FDA to manage symptoms of Alzheimer’s include galantamine, rivastigmine, and donepezil for mild to moderate Alzheimer’s, and memantine, donepezil, and the rivastigmine patch for moderate to severe Alzheimer’s. These drugs can help manage the disease, but no drug currently cures the disease. Medications recently approved by the FDA, such aducanumab and lecanemab may slow the disease course, but aspects of their effectiveness are still debated.

Are there natural treatments for Alzheimer’s?

Alzheimer’s disease cannot be cured via natural remedies (nor via medication), but some lifestyle habits can help forestall it or slow its progression. Lifestyle activities that can help prevent Alzheimer’s disease include regular exercise, a healthy, well-rounded diet, stimulating cognitive activity, time spent socializing, adequate sleep, and stress management as needed.
