My clients are people who don't want to reinvent or change who they are, they want acceptance for being themselves. My clients are people who wish to develop a sense of internal knowing, even if it is a quiet knowing, they are worthy, they are enough, and that they deserve acceptance. When we feel unsupported, or judged, for who we are, it may feel safer holding back or hiding our truth. A major component of our work together will be to build a sense of self-worth and confidence, which will allow you to feel more alive, more like your true self.

Welcome. Do you feel lost or without direction? Do you feel beaten down and overwhelmed? Do you do for everyone else but yourself? Do you long for just a little bit of "me" time, but feel guilty or undeserving? Could your relationships use a little work? Are people taking advantage of you? Do you have difficulty saying no? Do you experience periods of sadness or worry? Are you self-medicating to cope with your problems by over using alcohol, using other substances or engaging in self-defeating behaviors? Well you aren't alone and many feel the same.

For more than 25 years, I have specialized in working with adults of all ages who find themselves stuck in their lives. My patients tend to be people who would like to know themselves better and discover self-defeating patterns they would like to change. Most of the people I see are facing some kind of relationship, family, or work conflict often caused by anxiety or depression. The most rewarding work for me is helping people who are motivated to change and face issues in their personality and behavioral patterns that get in the way of living life more fully.

I have been in private practice for over 35 years and believe that people can truly change their lives. People can take very difficult experiences in their lives and use them to develop a more meaningful life. I draw from my own experiences while I work with my clients and believe that change can happen at any age. People can use grief, loss, trauma and life's most difficult experiences to develop meaning that they may never have had. Finding your own spirituality and your own style of coping is what makes it unique.

It is my hope that those who come to therapy feel listened to in a warm and inviting place that promotes hope and healing. I approach therapy like a verb. It takes action to change, fix or improve. Just simply calling or coming in for a first visit begins the journey to making things better.

Hi, my name is Cassie and I am happy you’re here. I am a clinical social worker for those who are parents or wanting to become parents, and other adults experiencing anxiety, depression, and stressors from disruptions in relationships. Parenthood can feel unpredictable, both challenging and rewarding. Being a parent can cause a whirlwind of emotions and at times leaves us feeling alone or unsure. Whether your stress stems from your own childhood coming back to you, relationships, your child’s development, or the endless 'hats' a parent must wear, you do not have to be alone. I am here for you.

If you or your relationship feels stuck and need help breaking harmful, recursive patterns (usually generational) to feel loving, prosperous, and healthy, reach out. Because once you grasp that your personal beliefs (again, often generational) create your emotions and that those emotions result in your behaviors, you can transform yourself and your relationships. I will help you replace outdated negative beliefs with healthy new ones. You will learn how to communicate and express emotions effectively. You will learn how to navigate life by becoming aware that you are playing the game of life; you just need to understand the rules.

It’s important to acknowledge that in life we have and will face challenges that overwhelm us and leave us feeling trapped. My goal as a therapist is to help you understand that these feelings are not only normal but are expected as we go through life. Teaching individuals that they have the power and control to alter what does not make them happy.

Interpersonal Therapists

Is interpersonal therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found interpersonal therapy to be effective for life transitions including retirement, divorce, and job loss. Also, some studies have found it to be just as useful as medication and other therapy approaches. The benefits of interpersonal therapy can last long after treatment has been completed; the individual can use the tenets of this therapy throughout their life.

How long does interpersonal therapy take?

Interpersonal psychotherapy is normally time-limited and focuses on specific problems in the client’s everyday relationships. Treatment can be either one-on-one or take place in a group setting; it tends to last 12 to 16 weeks, depending on the individual client’s needs. If a new interpersonal problem arises in the future, the client may require additional therapy to address it specifically. The timeline and session schedule may vary depending on the client’s challenges as well as their progress. Treatment may conclude with wrap-up sessions to review the client’s accomplishments.

Is interpersonal therapy effective?

Research shows that interpersonal therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of conditions such as depression or anxiety. The approach may also offer a range of benefits that are hard to measure but valuable—including healthier relationships and improved feelings of self-worth. The therapist will give the client practical solutions that can be put into practice. The brief duration of this therapy also means that clients can see changes in their relationships fairly quickly.

What are the limitations of interpersonal therapy?

Interpersonal therapy may not effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as psychosis, chronic illness, or alcohol relapse. Because it is short-term in nature, it may not be the best approach for conditions that need to be tracked, though maintenance sessions are a viable approach under these circumstances.

Can interpersonal psychotherapy be done online?

Yes, interpersonal psychotherapy can be conducted effectively either in-person or online. A therapist with expertise in IPT will be able to adjust their techniques, such as role-playing, to better suit the online environment. Offering online IPT can make it more accessible for clients who have transportation difficulties; it also provides the ideal opportunity to explore challenges unique to digital relationships.
