I am a well versed therapist with a passion for treating individuals of all ages from various backgrounds. Empowering my client(s) is something that I am unwaveringly committed to. I understand this can only be possible by allowing two-way candid, transparent, & relatable moments. I am a firm believer that getting to know my client outside of the therapeutic process; will better facilitate any accommodations needed in future sessions. A trusting space allows for vulnerable conversations.

Everyone experiences challenges. Sometimes we can overcome these challenges on our own, but at times we may benefit from extra support. Whatever you're going through is personal to you and the way you experience challenges is unique. I prioritize a positive relationship between client and therapist - without this, we're unlikely to feel comfortable addressing personal topics and challenges. With this foundation, we can explore how factors like childhood experiences, trauma and present day circumstances might inform the way we approach life.

Are you struggling, feel lost or uncertain about which direction you are going in life. We all go through things in life that have caused us to feel sadness, anxiety and even hopelessness about the future. It is "ok" to accept help and support through difficult times. It is also "ok" to not be "ok" all the time and this is where I can help you through this process. I believe that when a person is struggling from past and/or present issues and they feel like no one hears them or understands, it can become very debilitating in everyday life. I will listen and guide you through the process of healing through your struggles.

We are living in a time which may create feelings of anxiety, isolation, sadness, or being overwhelmed or "not yourself". Through the course of our lives we have difficult moments that may stay with us. Where you are now, where you came from, how you are treated, all influence thoughts, feelings, and functioning. I work with women around perinatal mental health, anxiety, depression, grief/loss, trauma, low self-esteem, and life stage adjustment. As a certified EMDR therapist, I'll support you through the healing process by meeting you where you are and engaging your strengths.

People seek therapy for different reasons - life transitions, family issues, anxiety, depression, a sense that they could be living fuller lives. Sometimes people feel unhappy and stuck in old familiar behaviors and patterns that they find are no longer helping them reach their goals. Working with a licensed therapist can provide the objective and professional feedback needed to assist in defining challenges, developing goals, and working toward positive change.

I am a licensed clinical social worker who has 16 years of clinical experience working with children and families. My therapeutic approach is viewed through a trauma informed, strength based and cognitive behavioral lenses. One of my favorite interventions is using art as a medium for therapeutic processing. Sometimes words is not enough to promote growth and express feelings for an individual.

Self-Harming Therapists

How does therapy for self-harm work?

A person may turn to self-injury so that they can distract themselves from their stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances. Therapy can address the cause of an individual’s suffering. A therapist can help a person understand why they may want to self-harm and help the person learn new methods of coping. A person may have poor emotion regulation, and treatment such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is helpful for breaking this behaviour. In addition, treatment such as dialectical behavior therapy can help a person manage their tolerance of distress.

Which therapies are best for self-harm?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, and mentalisation-based therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are common approaches for people who have painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual cope with distress, regulate emotions, and manage impulsive urges.

Does the tendency to self-harm mean the person is suicidal?

Having this urge does not mean the individual suffers from suicidal ideation. People who want to self-injure look to distract or alleviate themselves from the pain they are experiencing. People with suicidal tendencies want to end life altogether. However, this does not mean a person with the intent to self-harm will not attempt suicide.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for self-harm?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Clients may see improvement within 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, maybe, a six-month period. People, especially those with co-occurring conditions like depression and anxiety, may need to continue therapy for up to 12 to 18 months.
