Change is inevitable but the process of change can be difficult to navigate alone, whether as an individual or a couple. Often advice from friends or extended family only goes so far, and is not really the kind of help you are looking for when what used to feel comfortable or right no longer feels so good. If you, your partner, or a family member identifies as male you may want to consider a male therapist to gain greater insight and understanding into male issues relating to emotions and communication and to provide greater support for both you and your family.

I have had the privilege to work with many wonderful people since I came into this field in 2008, and what I have learned is that the most important thing in counseling is the relationship. To me you are a whole person and I will always treat you that way. I will go out of my way to let you know that I do care about you, about the way you feel and what your own personal goals are. I will do my best to make sure you feel comfortable and look forward to coming to your appointments.

I strongly believe in the effectiveness of the therapeutic relationship and will see you through a lens of strength. Talk therapy is empowering as we will start right where you are with an eye towards the future. With compassion and curiosity, let’s work towards your goals by identifying what is working while creating a plan of action for what is not.

We all struggle from time to time with areas of our lives that can seem overwhelming or out of control. A collaborative relationship between a caring therapist and client can ease and minimize the stresses that arise from these times.
I work with clients to discover and understand the inner parts of ourselves that need attention and healing during these times.Helping clients connect with their own sense of self and build on that strength is both rewarding and enlightening as we travel the journey of healing and rebuilding together. My client centered therapy is geared towards the respect, comfort and safety of the individual.

I want to be part of your healing story. I believe that two people working together are stronger than one. I believe that most of our suffering comes from the pain around separation and disconnection and that healing and empowerment is best experienced and guided within a relational framework. I believe that the traditional or Western medical model for healing is outdated and limited and so I embrace a holistic or integrative approach to mental health. I believe that healing takes place beyond intellectual processing and that we need to integrate healing into somatic or body based processes and rewriting personal narrative.

Not accepting new clients at this time. Please check back in July. Making the decision to seek a therapist is the first step in making important changes in your life. I provide a comfortable and a nonjudgemental environment where you can feel at ease about this decision. Although my focus is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, I incorporate other modalities based on the needs of the individual. I do not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to treatment. During the initial consultation, we will discuss the best course of action to meet your goals. It is important that all clients are involved in their treatment plan.

Psychodynamic Therapists
Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.
How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.
Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.
What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
