I have worked extensively with clients around feelings and issues involving pregnancy, fertility, parenting, life issues, gender dysphoria, LBGTQIA-NC, anxiety & depression, and those considering or had weight loss surgery.
Life today is a lot. School, work, partners, parents, social lives, social media-you name it. Whatever you are feeling and going through, therapy can help. Therapy can identify patterns that are impacting your life or be a place to have unbiased support for you. Working with a therapist offers you someone that is understanding, non-judgmental, empathetic and skilled. I offer a safe, quiet and supportive place to deal with life’s problems. My approach is to work collaboratively with clients, with humor and grace. Together we will establish goals and work to achieve them.

I specialize in helping moms with perinatal mental health.
Hello to all and welcome. Have you ever felt like you were wrong for the way you feel or that no one understands you? I am here to help you feel supported through anything you are going through. It is okay to feel the way that you do and there is support to help you change what you feel you want to be different. Friends and family can often be not supportive to your feelings or be judgmental. With therapy you can have a safe space to be honest and not be judged or ridiculed for it. Life is hard but being able to talk about it is helpful.

I specialize in working with individuals and couples during the perinatal phase of life. Many of us are sold the idea of a "village" and often feel discouraged and isolated to discover the village we thought would appear does not readily arrive, especially at such an incredibly rewarding and challenging time in our lives. My goal is to help clients navigate this path and discover how to incorporate being a parent into their identity, maintain their relationships, and acknowledge their experience. You are not alone, there will be a village, and I'll support you while you put yours together.

Motherhood hasn’t been what you were hoping for. You’ve been feeling depressed, anxious or overwhelmed most days. Your thoughts have become dominated by worries & distressing thoughts. Your emotions feel out of control-often shifting between joy, sadness & rage. You no longer feel like yourself & worry that these feelings will last forever. It is likely negatively impacting your relationship with your spouse, your social life & may make it difficult to bond with your baby. Whether these feelings developed due to a difficult pregnancy, a traumatic delivery or post partum hormones, they're preventing you from enjoying your new baby.

Motherhood is hard! You're exhausted, sleep deprived, and constantly second guessing yourself. You love your children but feel completely overwhelmed and the expectations of motherhood doesn't match the reality. Sometimes you even wish you could go back to life before kids, when you felt free, successful, and full of optimism. Whether you're currently rocking a newborn back to sleep, hiding in your bathroom from your screaming toddlers, or still recovering from a difficult birth, you are not alone in your feelings.

VERY FEW MORNING APPTs AVAILABLE* Oftentimes, people either are unaware of symptoms that arise over time or are told to simply get over them. I offer people the opportunity to be themselves, while also giving them the responsibility to work towards realistic goals they set. I have a history of working with both youth and adults struggling with depression, anxiety, adjustment, relationship issues, psychiatric issues, child/ parenting issues, grief, mandated care and co-occurring disorders. Together, we can address those struggles and work towards a better tomorrow.

Pregnancy, Prenatal, Postpartum Therapists

What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?

The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.

When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?

Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.

How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?

A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioral therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviors. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.

Are there specific medications for postpartum depression?

In 2019, the FDA approved the first medication designed to treat postpartum depression. The medication is called brexanolone and is delivered intravenously by a medical professional over the course of a few days. However, typical antidepressants, which are more accessible, can also treat postpartum depression. The disorder is often best treated through a combination of medication and therapy.
