Personal power is a phrase often said, but not always understood. Owning the impact of the choices you make, comes with recognizing the power your voice and behavior have on your future. The journey I have chosen has offered me the understanding of the physical and emotional impact of change, by owning my power to have the life I want. I want to offer you the support we all require, to consciously begin your journey to own your power to change your life.

I take and eclectic approach to helping clients alleviate anxiety, overthinking, depression, vacillating moods, and issues surrounding communication. If you're seeking to boost stress/anger management skills, we'll practice ways to calm and ground. Exploring the impact of past on present, habituated patterns of behavior, and how differing communication styles play-out in intimate and interpersonal relationships, you'll gain insight to the space between what you feel and what you do. You'll open to change and acceptance of the mind/body/spirit interplay for strong coping strategies, presence in the moment, and well-being.

Accept New Clients! It takes courage to begin the process of change and healing. By considering ways to engage in treatment, you have already begun this process. Talking about our feelings is hard, especially when we are ambivalent or do not know how to feel. I provide a safe, non-judgmental environment to help you explore those feelings.

*Accepting clients* My work aims to help individuals develop a deeper connection with themselves and how they relate to the world around them. Together, we will cultivate a greater sense of self-awareness to drive positive change in your life. I tend to focus on identifying maladaptive patterns in thoughts and coping strategies, understanding where these patterns stem from and what maintains them, and exploring more sustainable, affirming approaches. Often times this means examining attachments and ruptures in early development to consider how they continue to present in day-to-day life.

Currently accepting new clients! Asking for help can be difficult for many reasons, but I believe that there is so much strength, courage, and meaning in allowing ourselves to be vulnerable. I am here to listen to your story with compassion, to provide a safe space so that you can express and explore yourself freely, to help you develop the connections with yourself and others that you desire, and to help you harness your personal strengths.

I utilize CBT and DBT interventions while also integrating elements of psychodynamic and humanistic therapy, as well as mindfulness, to help you gain insight into how your thoughts, relationships and environments all contribute to your experiences and wellbeing.

I am passionate about helping you work through anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, body image, interpersonal relationships and life transitions. It can seem as though there are so many impossible standards to live up to in life, and it can be overwhelming to feel like you aren’t meeting those expectations – whether they be expectations you have for yourself or that others may have for you. Let’s discover together what YOU want your life to look like.

No two people are the same, and so I work creatively using trauma-informed therapeutic approaches from psychodynamic, attachment, mindfulness, IFS, EMDR, and cognitive-behavioral therapies uniquely tailored to you.
I specialize in the really hard stuff life throws our way. I work with adults, college students, and teens affected by grief and loss, complex trauma (abuse and neglect) and PTSD, serious and chronic health conditions (like cancer, ALS, MS, MD), disability, and other big life changes and challenges resulting in depression and anxiety. I believe that our inability to control what happens to us is not something to be overcome. Instead, it is the reality of life that we all live within. This is where the real work of being a person begins. And this is where good, meaningful, compassionate therapy comes in. I'm glad you're here.

Therapy shouldn't make you feel like you are doing everything "wrong" - let's start with what you are doing well and figure out how to do more of that. At Grow in Grace you are steering the work - what is important to you is important to me. There is a reason you think now is the time for therapy - that reason becomes our shared goal. In every session you can expect that your thoughts, feelings, and experiences are heard and valued. You are the expert on your life - my job is to come along side you, hold space, offer new perspectives, provide tools, and cheerlead.

Welcome, I’m glad you’re here! Life can be overwhelming sometimes, and it takes courage to ask for help. Therapy is a safe space to explore your present and past challenges. We will work together to find strategies and resources to improve your well-being. Maybe you are feeling hopeless, anxious, or struggling with the impact of past trauma. Maybe you are worried about college or adjusting to “adulting” after graduation. Whatever your struggle is, I am here to help you everything step of the way.

My work focuses on positive relationships - with yourself and others - based on compassion and fearless self-awareness. Even when we are thinking, feeling or doing things that we don't like, there is something about it all that makes sense. Uncovering the mystery of that logic is important to therapy. This process helps us come home to ourselves and to the present moment. I specialize in individual and couple goal oriented therapy. I also have considerable expertise in parent-child relationships, behavior management and emotional intelligence in children (see more at www.PeaceAtHomeParenting.com/our-experts).

As all of us seek wellness (safety, comfort, peace, health), and growth (knowledge, spirituality, compassion), we all draw upon various skills, goals, experiences and beliefs that shape our behavior. In my work, I respect clients as individuals who are doing what they can to achieve wellness and growth, and who experience successes to greater or lesser degrees in the different phases and circumstances of their lives. My efforts in counseling focus on what the client wants and how they can identify and apply their own strengths and resources in order to meet their personal goals.

Crises or life stressors are often what initially bring people to therapy. Others come to work on old issues that continue to re-surface, causing problems for the individuals themselves or in their relationships with family, or at work. Many people find therapy to be a place where they can work on increasing personal insight and self-awareness in order to live more fulfilling lives, and work toward achieving their highest potential. Whatever brings you here, therapy can be a place to help you restore balance in your life and live life to the fullest. In therapy, we work together to bring about lasting change.

If you're stuck in a pattern of behavior or thinking that isn't working for you and you want to feel better, I welcome your call! I use traditional psychotherapy as well as acupressure and other body-based techniques to help clients improve quickly. I particularly enjoy working with individuals who are interested in a holistic approach to healing that includes incorporating diet, exercise and mindfulness strategies. I also run groups for men and women throughout the year.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
