My approach is eclectic, including psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral and EMDR.
Are you an adult or teen wondering about psychotherapy? Do you have the sense that things could be better? We all have moments of feeling stuck in our lives, meaning that we are not progressing forward in an area of our life. We can feel stuck in our personal growth, in our relationships, in our parenting or in our professional lives. We can also feel bogged down in emotional states such as anxiety, depressed mood or lack of optimism. Together we can work to get you "unstuck" and feeling better about the direction of your life and your relationships.

My approach to therapy is psychoanalytic/ psychodynamic and draws on multiple theoretical approaches depending on the needs of the patient. Whether you are in crisis or simply dissatisfied with some aspect of your life, therapy can help by uncovering unconscious patterns and finding new ways to address unsettling internal states and interpersonal conflicts. These can include difficulties with coworkers and supervisors, family or romantic relationships, identity issues, unwanted dependencies, loss, loneliness, inertia, anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, rage, compulsive behaviors, and other self-destructive patterns.

One size certainly doesn’t fit all when it comes to therapeutic approaches; therefore, I draw on various modalities including psychodynamic exploration, supportive reflection and cognitive reframing.
I feel that the client-therapist relationship is the most important ingredient for a successful therapeutic outcome. Finding the right fit is essential and the first step on your journey. I hope to accompany you on that journey and help guide you to living a fuller, richer life. The right fit, in my experience, is a combination of strong academic and clinical training with an ability to be open, empathetic and understanding. Drawing on over twenty five years of experience working with adolescents, adults and couples, I strive to create a supportive environment where clients feel safe, understood and respected.

I create a warm and comfortable environment for my clients to feel safe in. I believe one of the things that takes the most courage is learning to begin to understand your story. I do encourage mindfulness practices in our work and focus heavily on self regulation strategies & self compassion and care, as well as CBT interventions. Additionally, I incorporate a psychodynamic approach, which considers personality and family history to address the underlying causes of problems or challenges. Lastly, I offer a mind-body approaches to support individuals in a whole-person, strength-based way, combining insight with action.

I take a psychodynamic approach while also exploring attachment ruptures from early childhood to open awareness of why your current thoughts and feelings are created; leading to self-destructive behaviors today.
I take time to assess why you are here today. I value your goals & needs to ensure the best quality of treatment. I believe trust, safety, & comfort are the keys in therapeutic success. I'm mindful, compassionate, non-judgmental,& believe it's imperative to find a balance between acceptance and change. I specialize in working with adolescents, families, and young adults struggling with trauma, addiction, BPD, and mood disorders. When exploring past & traumatic events I implement an evidence-based,collaborative approach equally effective & safe; providing you with successful goal oriented outcomes. Licenses: CT(009487) NY(085733).

When a particular area of life is less rewarding or is problematic, you may seek assistance rediscovering your path to mental health. Understanding that therapy is more likely to be helpful when you feel comfortable with your therapist, and hopeful about the therapy, my approach emphasizes accessing each person’s unique strengths and resources in order to facilitate growth, new learning, and fulfillment. I use a person-centered integrative approach drawing from psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, and somatic theories to work collaboratively with you toward mutually agreed-upon goals.

I employ a psychodynamic and cognitive/behavioral approach.
You are not broken, you are breaking through! After a major stressor or loss, it can become more difficult to recognize the glimmers of daily life. My mission is to help you uncover your inner power so that you can begin to heal from the inside out. By starting where you are, together we will make meaning and create new experiences in order to embrace the NOW and develop a future template for the next phase of your life. I aim to achieve this through a positive attachment, collaborative, strength based and trauma informed perspective.

Extensive training: Attachment based Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Emotion-Focused Couples Therapy (EFT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).
I strive to be a therapist who is challenging and direct without being judgmental; is open-minded and encouraging of my clients to explore options in their lives that may be different than my own or others around them. I am someone who doesn't rush to diagnose and pathologize, but rather seeks to understand. I am not invested in the choices my clients make, I am invested in my clients making choices from a place of wholeheartedness. And specifically, I have a keen understanding of the intricacies of intimacy and sexuality within relationship to oneself and community. As long as we "fail forward" together, we are perfectly imperfect

I draw from a psychodynamic approach that is aimed at understanding where you came from and where you want to go, as well as how you aim to get there.
Starting therapy can be overwhelming and scary, but together, we can work on figuring out where you want to go and remove the roadblocks in the way. I strive to help you find empowerment in your story by understanding how where you've been has led to where you are now. I use the relationship between my client and myself as a laboratory for exploration and development of the self.

Masters, NYU - Clinical Social Work: Psychodynamic Psycotherapy, Cognitive Therapy, Psychodrama.
I'm a Clinical Psychotherapist with a subspecialty in Stress Management/Bypass - While others can help you manage performance anxiety (e.g. public speaking), I can help you ditch the anxiety altogether, so you can show up at your best when it really counts :) As an Inner Game Coach, I help athletes of all sports play as well, if not better when competing than when practicing. I help clients improve their work/life balance; those with test anxiety learn how to easily pass their licensure exams; and help clients improve their personal life (relationships; resilience; move beyond procrastination, fear of failure; fear of success).

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
