Hi, I am a licensed clinical social worker with 27 years of therapeutic experience. I use Cognitive Behavioral therapy, but I understand the importance of psychodynamic intervention as well. These therapies are used for the treatment of depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder both with individuals and couples.Within a population of 18 years and older adults, including couples, my mission is to empower my patients to focus on their strengths and accomplishments. Through insight, awareness, and ultimately change, behaviors can be corrected to bring persons to where and what they want to be in life.

I have extensive experience with Psychodynamic therapy and Schema therapy.
Do you struggle with relationships, career, family, loneliness? Unfulfilling relationships, substance use, depression/anxiety and career challenges are often the catalysts that bring many people to my practice. While painful, these motivators to therapy can lead to lasting change. It is my strong belief that it is the relationship or therapeutic alliance between client and therapist that ultimately heals. I conduct psychotherapy through a Gay/LGBTQ-affirmative and a culturally humble framework.

It is my hope that those who come to therapy feel listened to in a warm and inviting place that promotes hope and healing. I approach therapy like a verb. It takes action to change, fix or improve. Just simply calling or coming in for a first visit begins the journey to making things better.

You have taken the first step to explore accepting therapy and you should feel proud that you have decided to get help. This has been a very challenging time for us all. The issues which were troubling you: stress in your relationships with family and friends or life changes/separation, divorce, retirement, illness or loss may have intensified during the pandemic. The stressful time we are living through may also contribute to your suffering. Please consider working with me to feel better. I offer daytime, evening and week-end hours in person in the office and telehealth.

For over 28 years, I’ve had the privilege of helping individuals and couples get back to the reasons they became a couple in the first place: someone to love; someone who makes you feel special. I will help you learn skills so that you can once again feel the trust, the connection and the rekindled passion that was once part of your relationship. I use the acronym “LOVERS” from my book, "The Second Wives Club," as the foundation to restore and nurture your relationship. LOVERS stands for Loyalty, Openness, Validity of trust, Empathy, Respect, and Stability of commitment. It works every time!

My approach to providing therapy is guided by the person that is receiving the service. Every persons situation and need is different, therefore I believe various approaches are needed to address life's problems. I was led to work in this field at the start in dealing with my own life's concerns. I have and continue to work on myself as a person, so that I can be the best person I can be. This in return becomes a gift that my clients can receive in return. We can only take our clients as far as we have gone. In my practice I hold space for the four basic realms of the human journey - Physical, Intellectual, Emotional, Spiritual.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
