I have been a therapist for 26+ years treating numerous psychological issues & age groups. My clinical focus/expertise includes: eating disorders, anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD, relationship issues, severe trauma & grief/loss. My primary treatment approach utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (changing your thought response). My job isn't to fix but to assist you with learning positive/realistic coping skills, focusing on your strengths and offering constructive feedback to reduce the level of interference your struggles/beliefs have on you with an emphasis on acceptance, validation and empowerment at every stage of therapy.

Are you feeling overwhelmed? Are you a new mom struggling with many demands? Have you been avoiding fights with your partner? Seeing no hope for the future? Always anxious? Whether you're a new parent juggling numerous responsibilities, navigating relationship challenges, or battling with persistent anxiety, know that you're not alone. These experiences are common among moms, dads, couples, professionals, students, and individuals alike. However, they don't have to define your life.

My ideal client is someone curious about their current and past experiences and how those impact their current challenges and strengths. Whatever trauma or setbacks altered your life, whatever questions you have yet to answer, and whatever your unique assets are all comes together in your unique story - I encourage clients to question, explore, and seek deeper understanding in therapy, especially with humor and creativity.

I work hard to meet my clients where they’re at, recognizing that our existence doesn’t happen in a vacuum – our identities have an impact on the way we move through the world and the supports and resources we have access to while we do so. My approach to therapy is made up of a combination of motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, solution-focused techniques, and harm reduction, but I am always learning and growing along with the needs of my clients.

Art Therapy, a beneficial and non-threatening alternative to traditional talk therapy. We all have the ability and creativity to connect to images generated by ourselves or by others. Art making has a primal component and brings us great insight into our inner experience. It's my passion and priority to create opportunities for others to recognize and develop their authentic self in a safe and supportive environment. My areas of focus include working with individuals, couples and families, trauma, relational, and substance dependency challenges. I also provided supervision hours for emerging art therapists.

Discussing your mental health should be an ongoing conversation. While it can be nerve-racking, it's important to identify someone you feel comfortable with to start the conversation.

Are you considering reaching out to talk to someone about the challenges that you, your children, or your family may be facing? I would be happy to be that person. We will collaborate and develop goals together and I will help you reach those goals. We will focus on your strengths. Even if you seem to have forgotten what those strengths are, I know they are there and together we will find them together.

We all have unique stories: some are buried deep, some are open wounds, some we band aid and some we would rather forgot. Being able to have support and a safe place to look into these stories and then change the narrative to encompass the whole story requires a readiness to grow and heal from the inside out so that your new stories empower you and impact all of your relationships, including the relationship with yourself. Are you ready to heal and move into a more authentic and connected self?

I began practicing as an in-home clinician working with people after discharge from long-term psychiatric hospitalization. It was during that period that I received intensive training to provide Dialectical Behavior Therapy. The intense dialectical process has been helpful for many of my clients to achieve stability and work towards resolving traumatic experiences. Part of regulating our behavior is teaching our body and brain to better regulate so I also specialize in Neurofeedback/biofeedback modalities to support behavioral interventions. Please see my practice website for details on Neurofeedback treatment: CTneurotherapycom

Sometimes we dwell on the past, our emotions and thoughts linger and we unconsciously remain stuck not knowing how to move forward with ourselves.. our thoughts can either break us or make us. Dealing with anxiety, depression, relationship issues and the monkey wrenches that life throws at us is hard ! Difficult times teaches us to be resilient and we learn more about ourselves.

Online Therapists

Is online therapy as effective as in-person?

Numerous studies suggest that online therapy can be as effective as in-person therapy. However, further research is needed to determine if online therapy provides the same benefits across all client populations. Individuals with severe mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, or those who may benefit from in-person check-ins, like those with eating disorders, may not experience the same level of benefit from online therapy. Nonetheless, the success of online therapy, much like in-person therapy, often hinges on the quality of the therapeutic relationship between the therapist and the client rather than the specific modality of therapy used.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of therapy conducted online?

One of the main advantages of online therapy is its convenience for both clients and therapists. It also allows clients who require specialized therapy to access a wider range of professionals than they could with only in-person sessions. Additionally, online therapy may be a more affordable option in some cases and often offers the same insurance benefits as in-person therapy. However, online therapy may not be suitable for everyone, especially those who value face-to-face interaction with a therapist. Therapists may find it more challenging to assess clients accurately in an online setting due to reduced nonverbal cues on camera. There is also the increased risk that disruptions caused by external factors, such as technology malfunctions, can hinder the therapy session. For these reasons, many therapists offer a "hybrid" therapeutic approach, alternating between seeing clients in-person and online.

Is online therapy suitable for children and adolescents?

Just like with adults, the accessibility and convenience of online therapy can greatly benefit children and adolescents. In fact, children and adolescents may be more accustomed to navigating online platforms than older adults, making online sessions feel more natural for them. Teens might also be interested in using additional online tools, such as therapist-recommended apps, as an adjunct to online therapy sessions. Apps for developing CBT skills, practicing mindfulness exercises, or tracking thoughts and moods can be helpful for teens receiving therapy. However, it's important to note that not all therapeutic modalities are well-suited to online therapy, especially those used with younger children. For example, play therapy, which helps younger children express their emotions, often requires in-person sessions to be fully effective.

Can I receive prescriptions and medication management with online therapy?

The ability for psychiatrists to prescribe medications through online therapy varies based on the medication and the states where the medical professional and client are located. While many prescribing regulations were relaxed during the COVID-19 pandemic, some states still enforce rules, especially concerning controlled substances, which may mandate an in-person visit before prescribing. Generally, however, medical professionals can prescribe non-controlled substances through online therapy sessions just as they do during in-person sessions.
