We believe in supporting our clients ever evolving mental heath through all the stages of motherhood; inclusive of preconception, infertility, pregnancy loss, perinatal, birth trauma, postpartum, medication, work life balance and personal evolution.
Here at Evolving Tree Therapy we understand the many challenging demands of Mothers today. Our Mothers have current mental health symptoms impacting their day to day life (anxiety, depression, mood disorder, grief/loss). Our clients are a supporter/caretaker, are the strong one for everyone. They may have a difficult time asking for help, they are frequently tired and overwhelmed craving work life balance. They often feel the weight of the responsibility tornado. They have awareness that they carry the mental load for their home and family. We understand Motherhood can really suck, but it doesn’t have to be so hard and it's okay to talk about the hard parts. It’s okay, not to be okay. It's okay to seek therapy and medication to help, the stigma needs to end (Up to 80% of women report experiencing postpartum symptoms). Mom’s mental health is the most important thing! She is the root and core of the family. Our clients value motherhood, yet they often feel isolated in motherhood, and question their identity. Many of our moms experience guilt like they’re not doing enough.

I have a passion working with "mom warriors" navigating motherhood, postpartum and balancing motherhood with career.
Being a human can be quite painful at times. We have complex feelings and thoughts some conscious, some unconscious. Trying to navigate life and our relationships can be hard. The beauty of therapy is we don’t have to navigate it alone. Together we can examine what has been coming to mind for you. I offer a calm presence and non judgemental space for you to talk things out. As we talk my hopes are you will embody a greater self awareness, resolve inner conflicts, experience symptom relief, improve relationships, and enhance your self esteem. Through this personal development my clients experience self acceptance.

Imagine a client with a lot on their mind who knows what they want to discuss and is open to reflections and observations. They might be a professional facing a career change, a college or trade student, someone struggling with low self-esteem, or dealing with guilt and shame in family relationships. They could be in a caregiving role seeking support, an LGBTQ+ individual considering medical transition, or a woman with anxiety in today’s socio-political climate. They might suspect undiagnosed ADHD, be a mother with postpartum depression, or balancing family demands. Their goal is to communicate their needs and desires effectively.

Motherhood hasn’t been what you were hoping for. You’ve been feeling depressed, anxious or overwhelmed most days. Your thoughts have become dominated by worries & distressing thoughts. Your emotions feel out of control-often shifting between joy, sadness & rage. You no longer feel like yourself & worry that these feelings will last forever. It is likely negatively impacting your relationship with your spouse, your social life & may make it difficult to bond with your baby. Whether these feelings developed due to a difficult pregnancy, a traumatic delivery or post partum hormones, they're preventing you from enjoying your new baby.

As a mom and woman who has struggled with perinatal mental health issues, I get it.
You’re a woman who knows what she wants out of life. But things aren’t going the way you envisioned. Perhaps fertility issues have left you feeling lost, frustrated, and sad. Or maybe motherhood has overwhelmed you to the point of anxiety and depression. Infertility, loss, or even entering motherhood can force you to face seemingly insurmountable mental health struggles. But you are a resilient woman with incredible inner strength. With the right therapist by your side, you can use those innate strengths, overcome your challenges, fully engage in your life, effectively cope with whatever comes your way, and genuinely thrive.

Pregnancy, Prenatal, Postpartum Therapists

What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?

The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.

When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?

Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.

How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?

A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioral therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviors. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.

Are there specific medications for postpartum depression?

In 2019, the FDA approved the first medication designed to treat postpartum depression. The medication is called brexanolone and is delivered intravenously by a medical professional over the course of a few days. However, typical antidepressants, which are more accessible, can also treat postpartum depression. The disorder is often best treated through a combination of medication and therapy.
