My psychotherapy practice is informed by formal training in contemplative and psychodynamic therapies, valuing health and wellness. My framework is a natural outcome of my own ongoing therapeutic work and developing spiritual practice, allowing me to more fluently move between the spiritual language of love and compassion and the psychological language of emotional distress and resiliency. The focus is on the here and now, understanding that your early developmental experiences affect your present feelings, mood, and behavior, often masking your natural capacity for well-being. Those experiencing life changes, challenges, transitions, such as loss and grief, anxiety, depression, trauma, divorce, work-related issues would benefit.

Unfortunately I am unable to welcome new clients at this time… A doctor colleague of mine refers people to me saying, "if you're ready to roll up your sleeves and get to work, I recommend Gina." My style is a blend of warm, safe, open-hearted acceptance, and curious, challenging, emotional work: all within the context of a real relationship. I have over thirty years of experience and can help you improve your relationship with yourself and others, improve both your work and family life, change behaviors that aren't working for you, and feel more at peace.

I offer a respectful, varied, and empathic approach to therapy. My goal is to work with you to identify personal strengths, develop and hone coping and problem solving methods, and create ways to establish and sustain a mental and emotional balance. I fervently believe your struggles need not be your identity. I also provide comprehensive clinical supervision to MSW grads looking to prepare for the stringent LCSW exam. I offer a two-prong approach to supervision: preparing for the exam and honing clinical skills transferrable to any practice settings. Fee for at least 100 hours of clinical supervision is negotiable.

Please email versus calling for fastest response : ) I am here for you, period. We are all in this crazy thing called life together. I have been working with diverse populations for several years now. It might seem like everyone else has it all figured out on this planet, but they absolutely do not. What you want to get out of therapy is what you will get. You are the expert in your life. I am here to help others meet their goals.

Transitions are, by their very nature, difficult. Adjusting to any life change requires continued growth, self-development and a balance between one's inner strength and external resources. I assist adults (as well as senior citizens) to create a meaningful existence in the social and environmental contexts of their lives. I use cognitive behavioral methods to help my clients successfully cope with a broad spectrum of stressors and personal life challenges related to major life events--career change, retirement, divorce or the death of a loved one.

Dissociative Disorders (DID) Therapists

How does therapy for dissociative disorders work?

Dissociation may be triggered by stress or other upsetting circumstances, and therapy can address the traumatic events at the core of an individual’s dissociation. Understanding why a person may dissociate can help the therapist and the individual come up with alternative methods of coping. A person with a dissociative disorder may get stuck on negative thinking, for example, and treatment like Cognitive behavioral therapy is a gold standard for breaking such thinking. And dialectical behavior therapy, for example, can help a person manage their anguish through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for dissociative disorders?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, schema therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful memories and past traumas. These therapies work to integrate an individual's different identities into one person.

Are there specific medications for dissociation?

There are no specific medications prescribed for dissociative disorders. However, psychosis, depression, anxiety, and/or panic often co-occur in dissociative disorders. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for any accompanying symptom—which may include antipsychotics like aripiprazole, antidepressants like selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or anti-anxiety drugs like benzodiazepines.

How often and how long are therapy sessions?

Like any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. There are still other patients, especially those who have co-occurring conditions like depression and anxiety, who may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months.
