I blend my psychodynamic training at the Family Institute at Northwestern University with Acceptance and Commitment and Emotionally Focused therapy to offer an empathetic, nonjudgmental space for you to self-reflect, grow, heal and disrupt negative patterns that make you feel stuck.
Hello! I provide individual therapy to adults struggling with anxiety, depression, women’s issues (perinatal, postpartum, weaning difficulties, transition to motherhood, infertility), trauma, life transitions and relational issues. Whether you’re brand new to therapy and feel intimidated about starting or whether you’ve seen a therapist in the past, I hope to offer an environment where you feel comfortable being curious about yourself and better understanding how your past experiences/memories impact your relationships and worldview today.

My training has been in treatment modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Family Systems, Individual Psychodynamic Theory, Neurolinguistic Programing, and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Schema Therapy.
In my 41 years of experience, I have come to believe that all of us at times in life may need some guidance and support with tough challenges or situations that cause emotional upset. However, I view these times as an opportunity to learn new strategies that can be more effective than the ones we have been using along with gaining critical insight into why we struggle in certain areas.

Anxiety, Childhood Trauma, Neurodiversity, Depression, ADHD, and Burnout are some of the most common issues that I focus on managing in my practice. Clients who I work with learn to turn towards themselves in order to manage stress, heal from trauma, and create and reinforce healthy boundaries. Many past clients have described "a weight being lifted" after our work together. Building a therapeutic alliance, we will work to identify needs, strengthen the relationship with yourself, and reinforce self-acceptance and empathy. Despite the suffering we all experience at times, we can still find immense relief and joy in this life.

Many people come into therapy because they want change in their lives, but said change feels scary or unobtainable. I partner with you to identify the changes you want to make and understand the beliefs and stories that maintain the issues and problems you hope to change. I will actively participate in your therapy by asking exploratory questions, using empathic listening, and gently and lovingly holding up the mirror so you can become increasingly aware and accepting of yourself.

As a psychologist, my job is to help my patients identify problematic patterns, understand formative relationships, and develop self understanding. The greatest predictor of success in therapy is the therapist-patient relationship and finding a therapist with whom you feel understood and can explore painful issues is crucial. The essence of good therapy is empathy, tactful directness, and a collaborative approach to help people make and internalize changes to improve relationships and impart a sense of well-being. My goal is to create a safe, supportive, non-judgmental space where we can explore the past and create a new future.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
