If daily life often feels overwhelming, let's talk. My office is a comfortable and safe place where you and I can talk about what holds you back. If you want to strengthen your connection to yourself and others, I can help. Do you and your partner run into the same communication barriers over and over leaving you feeling hopeless? I utilize a method called Internal Family Systems to help you identify parts of you that may be getting in the way. By getting to know those parts of you, we can start you moving forward with confidence again.

Of course, sometimes life can be difficult. And sometimes life has been difficult all along, for some of us. Psychotherapy has the potential to not only address the difficulties that we experience, but also has the potential to help us find a way to integrate healing so that we may experience joy and vitality again - or maybe even for the first time. I am happy to work with individuals, families and couples who are interested in exploring and understanding how they may be able to heal wounds, create stability and forge new and meaningful paths and/or relationships in their lives.

You deserve to feel safe, supported, and, most importantly, heard. It’s easy to get overwhelmed by life’s demands and feel like no one is on your side. Depression, anxiety, and stress can make us feel as if there is nowhere else to go. Or we develop coping methods that are not aligned with our life goals. If pouring from an empty cup is no longer an option for you, then I commend you for taking the first step towards your new journey.

Coaching vs. Therapy: Unlike therapy, which centers on past traumas & problems; coaching is future-focused & goal-oriented. Karen's coaching compliments therapy while promoting balance & holistic development. She helps professionals who despite achievements & years of working on themselves, still lack life balance, financial freedom, good health, happy relationships & still feel unfulfilled. Worst of all, they find themselves without purpose, dissatisfied, overwhelmed & short on “me time”. Coaching with Karen is a journey which addresses all aspects of life for individuals who are in transition, working, or retired but want more.

One can have the desire to change, but it’s the Courage to take the first step that produces change. You are making a Courageous decision today and I applaud you for that! Therapy is a collaborative effort where we continually take steps to identify and create the change one seeks. My goal as a clinical social worker is three-fold: 1. To help you attain clarity in the matters that negatively impact your life, and 2. To support you as we identify options for dealing with those matters and create the change.

You miss your relationship the way it used to be. You feel misunderstood and want to reconnect but don't know how to bridge the gap between you. Maybe you are even wondering if you can ever forgive or be forgiven for hurt between you. It might be that you are looking to repair a relationship with your parent or adult child and need outside perspective. My style is warm but direct; I'll help you sort out the emotions of this pain and make sense of how you got to where you are. Available weekly openings are 3pm or earlier. Some biweekly evenings may be open. I do not offer in network insurance services for couples or families.

Are you struggling to see your worth in this world, despite being an overachiever? You never let yourself off the hook at work, home, or both. You're also struggling to figure out how you even feel. There's no time in your busy day to even consider it. Most people look at you and think you have it all together, but on the inside you're screaming. You feel like there is a missing piece, but you just can't put your finger on it. I help motivated, insightful, and highly sensitive individuals and couples, like you, find the healing they have always deserved.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
