I have experience with EMDR, addictions, depression, anxiety and blended families, gay, lesbian, and premarital counseling.
I have been a Marriage and Family Therapist working in Connecticut for 30 years. I like a relaxed atmosphere in which clients can set goals for therapy and explore what may have been getting in the way of achieving their desired outcomes. Discussing patterns of behavior and self limiting beliefs we are able to get to the core of the issues so the client can move forward with success.

I have found that supporting clients with other somatic and psychotherapy-based interventions in tangent with EMDR to be most effective.

I am a yoga instructor (2015) and meditation teacher (2014). I'm so glad you're here. If you're living with depression or anxiety, you've come to the right place. My approaches offer hope, support, and strategies for building forward momentum, so you can shift into a sense of thriving. In whatever way that means for you. It takes bravery to keep pushing forward when depression and anxiety weigh you down; you may feel stuck, wondering if relief - and joy - are possible (yes, they are). Thriving includes acknowledging our depression and anxiety while taking (sometimes small) actions to put ourselves back in the driver's seat. Depression and anxiety do not have to control your life.

*Not accepting new clients at this time* Life in our contemporary society is far more complicated and stressful than in previous generations. Our coping skills are continually being tested, it is important for us to learn new ways to handle life’s changing demands and challenges. People and problems do not exist in a vacuum; home, school, work, and social environments, as well as cultural heritage, are important factors in how we feel and act. It is vital for us to acknowledge and understand these influences. Counseling is a process of exploring, clarifying and identifying what we require in order to feel better about our lives.

I am a Level 5 Prolonged Grief Therapist and trainer, Certified in EMDR and in Death, Dying and Bereavement.
Although grief is a natural response to loss, for many people learning to adapt to life without their loved one is challenging. When the loss is sudden, traumatic, or the loss of a child, the challenges can be even greater. It can be helpful to work with a therapist who understands grief and can help navigate the emotions and thoughts that accompany the loss.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
