There are many times in life when we all wonder about our purpose and direction. Questions about our lives become more difficult to navigate as we encounter adversities, stressors, and traumatic experiences. Feelings of anxiety, worry, and depression jeopardize our sense of overall safety and can affect our ability to move towards peace. I am a Marriage and Family Therapist with many years experience in the field walking along side individuals and families on their journey to feeling more confident and worthy.

Stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, conflict, affect everyone regardless of their background or identity. I am a LCSW with over 18 plus years of professional experience, working with individuals, couples, and families, impacted by life’s challenges. While we are all doing the best we can, there is healing and growth, that sometimes requires a partner in this process. My practice is open to people ages 18 plus years, for individual, and couples. I am currently accepting Husky, self-pay, and out-of-network referrals.

Welcome! As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I offer support in many areas such as depression, anxiety, life transitions, and relationship difficulties. I’m also a good fit if life feels "okay," but you’re yearning for a deeper, more fulfilling experience. I deeply value each person's uniqueness and find it crucial to work collaboratively to discover an approach that best suits you. In a warm and supportive atmosphere, it would be an honor to assist in connecting you with the strength and intuition that already resides within you.

With 20 years’ experience, my core assumption is that each of us has the innate capacity to do all of the following:  feel happy; form close and satisfying relationships with others; manage situations effectively; make good decisions; and even heal from trauma and loss.  However, sometimes that innate capacity gets blocked.  That is when we run into emotional or behavioral problems.  It is my job to help you understand what is blocking your own innate capacity so those blocks can dissolve.

I'm experienced in both modern and historical approaches; psychodynamic, attachment-based, internal family systems, addiction, and psychosynthesis.
When we feel stuck in our lives, for weeks, or years, it can take a toll on us in ways we may not see. Time passes and we don't feel any further in our life. We're left feeling exhausted and alone in our pain. My name is Ryan, and I provide therapy for people who are looking to break free. Whether it's poor relationships, anxiety, depression, substance or process addictions, trauma, or a desire to deepen their connection with others, I help my clients find strength, flexibility, and compassion, returning themselves to the feeling of being whole.

I won’t give a long spiel about hope and joy here, but what I will say is that life is hard and therapy can be really helpful in managing the ways in which what we have been through impacts us.

Additionally, I am trained in Gottman Method Couple Therapy (Level Two) and utilize attachment-based Emotion Focused Therapy in sessions with couples.
I'm Annie - I'm here to help you make your therapy experience a little less intimidating and a little more fun. As a parent myself, I know how hard it can be to take time out of your schedule to focus on yourself, your relationships, or even your family when you're just trying to get everyone to eat dinner. Believe it or not, but therapy should be meaningful, impactful, and not miserable. If you feel ready to start the journey to being your best self, I'm here to walk with you on the way.

My approach is relational and attachment-based, integrating ideas from Internal Family Systems and Polyvagal Theory.
Are you feeling anxious or overwhelmed? Do you struggle with day-to-day life demands? Do you ever feel like you don't have a voice? Perhaps you just need someone to listen? Research shows that it can really help to talk to someone. I have worked as a teacher and mentor for 25+ years and as a therapist for over 10 years.

I specialize in the really hard stuff life throws our way. I work with adults, college students, and teens affected by grief and loss, complex trauma (abuse and neglect) and PTSD, serious and chronic health conditions (like cancer, ALS, MS, MD), disability, and other big life changes and challenges resulting in depression and anxiety. I believe that our inability to control what happens to us is not something to be overcome. Instead, it is the reality of life that we all live within. This is where the real work of being a person begins. And this is where good, meaningful, compassionate therapy comes in. I'm glad you're here.

I focus on helping you become more fully who you are or want to be. Over our lifetime we learn behaviors and beliefs that were rewarded or were necessary for acceptance at home, work, school or anyplace we interacted with others. We may carry these (mostly unconscious) beliefs and behaviors with us even though they may be unhelpful and/or destructive. They may show up in intimate relationships, friendships, work or other places that impact our quality of life. Working together we identify counterproductive beliefs and behaviors and replace them with beliefs and behaviors that support the adult you want to be.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
