Her focus includes depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, bipolar disorder, trauma recovery, LTBTQIA+ and identity issues, domestic violence, parenting struggles, intimacy issues, and communication problems.
Is depression or anxiety keeping you from engaging with life as you want to? Are your relationships suffering because of communication issues or mental health problems? Have you tried therapy in the past but stopped because it felt impersonal or formulaic? Dealing with mental health issues affects how you think about yourself, interact with loved ones, and how much effort you can use to chase your goals. If you’re ready to find positive solutions to your mental health and relationship issues, therapy with a person-centered approach may help.

Living with a mental illness can be exhausting and lonely. You might find you have no energy to do anything, even the things you used to love doing. You might find you have thoughts that make you feel worse. Maybe you struggle with anxiety or trauma and feel like you are always on edge and must push yourself to do the “simple” things. Maybe "feeling better" seems out of reach. Many feel feel like nobody understands the struggles each day brings. Life can get better. It might be hard to read and believe that statement and it's true that life does not have to be one struggle after another.

Accepting clients! Deciding to start therapy is hard, and finding the right therapist for you can be even harder! I know first hand how important the therapist/client relationship is and I am here to be that support for you. I am not your "textbook therapist" and strive to offer a unique experience (yes we can laugh and cry in sessions). With my wide range of experience in the field and a genuine passion for helping those in their mental health journey, it would be my privilege to work with you!

Sometimes it can be hard to get through the day, and even harder to get through the night. Sometimes we can feel lost, empty, unmotivated, angry or anxious. Maybe all at once, or maybe we feel nothing at all. Feeling trapped, confused, and stuck in our emotions, thoughts, or circumstances can be painful; it doesn’t have to be. Sometimes trying to cope on our own can seem overwhelming. I offer caring, empathetic, non-judgmental, effective therapy backed by 10 years of mental health experience. Everyone deserves to live a life full of enrichment, and personal fulfillment.

I won’t give a long spiel about hope and joy here, but what I will say is that life is hard and therapy can be really helpful in managing the ways in which what we have been through impacts us.

Suicidal Ideation Therapists

How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?

Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioral therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.

Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?

The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
