Life presents each of us with challenges that sometimes seem overwhelming. Relationship conflicts, family and work stress, parental concerns, separation and divorce, health worries, the grief of loss, spiritual crises--all these hardships can bring anxiety, depression, anger and sadness in their wake. One can feel out of control using old coping mechanisms and strategies that don't work anymore. It's then that you will need the kind of support and guidance I offer to help strengthen your untapped natural ability to mindfully navigate through these and many other life stresses.

I’ve been a therapist for over 10 years and it’s something I thoroughly enjoy. Helping people, supporting people, and connecting with people are things that make being a therapist so special. I’ve worked with young adults, adults, and couples throughout the years. I’ve enjoyed being able to talk with my clients openly and honestly, I find that connecting on a real level helps build trust and confidence in our therapeutic relationship.

I work with adults, couples, and millennial's who may be experiencing: Transitional struggles, women's issues, retirement adjustments, stressors, relationship issues, lack of structure, poor boundary/communication skills, depression, anxiety, family conflict, performance based struggles, relationship challenges, anxiety, lack of self care, and codependency.
Life is a journey, and in an increasingly connected world our ability to find balance may prove to be challenging and increase emotional vulnerabilities. "Down time" becomes less and less due to the pressures of society or of our own negative tapes that we play . My main focus is to reconnect and build a therapeutic relationship in an environment where the individual can work on formulating positive communication, set realistic personal goals, identify patterns of behaviors, and work on resolving issues in the here and now.

You are looking for someone with a compatible personality, style, attitude and philosophy, because you need a trusting and supportive relationship to get the most help from therapy.
The best way to find a therapist who is right for you is through a referral from someone who knows that therapist. A good personal fit is the most important requirement for a positive and beneficial therapy experience. Browsing through photographs and thoughtful, sensitive, but idealized self-promoting profiles is not a very reliable way to choose one therapist out of the hundreds of attractive, thoughtful, educated, qualified and credentialed therapists in the Greater Hartford area and the many surrounding towns and cities. The Counseling & Psychotherapy Referral Service is provided free of charge by Kenneth R. Sleight, Th.M., NCC (Licensed Professional Counselor CT#000001).

I currently only have daytime availability. Change can be difficult and finding your way to therapy can be both scary and overwhelming. Together we can work to create change through a supportive and collaborative therapeutic relationship. Often times, we maintain cycles of behavior and relationships that create a feeling of imbalance, affecting our ability to face the difficulties that are thrown our way. We will work to increase insight into your thoughts and behaviors and find a path toward a positive future by utilizing strengths and supports that you already possess.

First and foremost, our goal is to help you achieve your goals. We treat each person as the individual that they are, with the understanding that we are not fully responsible for all of the difficulties in our lives, but that we can collaborate to help make the challenges you face more manageable. Our experiences have been primarily with individuals and families, those struggling with anxiety, depression, substance abuse, relationship issues and adjustment. We welcome anyone who is seeking an objective individual, and a safe place to explore their situation and feelings. We have both male and female identified clinicians on staff.

Relationship Issues Therapists
While need for human connection appears to be innate, the ability to form healthy, loving relationships is learned. Some evidence suggests that the ability to form a stable relationship starts to form in infancy, in a child's earliest experiences with a caregiver who reliably meets the infant's needs for food, care, warmth, protection, stimulation, and social contact. Such relationships are not destiny, but they are theorized to establish deeply ingrained patterns of relating to others. The end of a relationship, however, is often a source of great psychological anguish.
