In working with me, my hope is that you will feel cared for, seen and understood. My style is warm and empathetic, but I am also very direct and solution-focused. My initial career in the theatre, ignited my interest in what both motivates and challenges us as human beings. Personal loss of great magnitude inspired a new career path for me, helping others navigate change, life transitions, and move toward personal growth and satisfaction in their lives. I love when clients gain self-awareness, improve their interpersonal relationships, reduce or eliminate stress and anxiety, and identify and actualize their goals.

I have been doing clinical therapy for over 15 years. I know that when someone feels heard and understood — self worth and value increases. The overall goal in therapy Is to know yourself better, trust yourself, and like yourself. During the process it can become clear which experiences have influenced esteem and self worth. Gaining self awareness is key to feeling in control. Once a person understands themselves better, decisions become easier and life feels lighter.

I have great faith in the healing power of therapy. Psychotherapy allows us the time and space for us to identify our feelings, our perceptions of self, how we are doing, what may be holding us back, and what we want out of life. Merely by talking about ourselves and what matters to us, we can begin to understand and accept ourselves Working with a compassionate well trained therapist and can help us feel that we are not alone, that there is hope and we that we can feel well.

I take an active approach in working with my clients to develop effective coping skills to face life's challenges. I use a cognitive approach to help clients learn how their thinking adds to their distress and how to assess their concerns in more empowering ways. My training is in marriage and family therapy so whether I am working with one person or a number of family members, I help my clients understand how changes in how the family operates can greatly reduce stress. I have a particular interest in and continue training in mindfulness based stress reduction.

I am a therapist that enjoys incorporating a little humor into my sessions with my clients as I feel it helps ease the potential discomfort that they might feel when coming to therapy. My goal is for the client to enjoy coming to therapy despite the work being difficult. I tell my clients that therapy is about processing past or current situations that they have experienced and it's about helping them grow into the people they want to be. I believe my clients can see how much I enjoy this profession and the fact that I am so privileged being the person they trust to confide in.

Starting therapy is not easy. But neither is living the life of disappointments and regrets. If you feel you are in a dead end, if your job is boring and ungratifying and the relationships are toxic or lack depth and zest, if you struggle with finding your place in this world or even question whether life is worth living, perhaps it is time to examine your life choices and remove the blocks that hold you from finding meaning, happiness, and purpose. I practice psychotherapy that is informed by the traditions of psychoanalysis and look at each individual in the context of this person's unique experiences and unique life story.

Life presents each of us with challenges that sometimes seem overwhelming. Relationship conflicts, family and work stress, parental concerns, separation and divorce, health worries, the grief of loss, spiritual crises--all these hardships can bring anxiety, depression, anger and sadness in their wake. One can feel out of control using old coping mechanisms and strategies that don't work anymore. It's then that you will need the kind of support and guidance I offer to help strengthen your untapped natural ability to mindfully navigate through these and many other life stresses.

I’ve been a therapist for over 10 years and it’s something I thoroughly enjoy. Helping people, supporting people, and connecting with people are things that make being a therapist so special. I’ve worked with young adults, adults, and couples throughout the years. I’ve enjoyed being able to talk with my clients openly and honestly, I find that connecting on a real level helps build trust and confidence in our therapeutic relationship.

Emotionally Focused Therapists

Who is emotionally focused therapy for?

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?

People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?

Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?

EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
