My specialties are depression, anxiety, women's issues, relationship issues, communication skills, anger management, self esteem, and assertiveness skills/boundary setting (getting out of toxic relationships).
I enjoy helping people to see how amazing they are - we can lose sight of this fast when not feeling our best. I have a very down to earth approach and I'm all about identifying and using your own strengths to solve issues, foster and build empowerment, and move past shame and self criticism. Therapy is different for each person depending on your needs, preferences, and goals. The experience should be judgement free, safe, and understanding, which is crucial. I have been practicing through the lens of constant anti racism, anti imperialism, anti oppression and Liberation focused training, which I place the utmost importance on.

I currently only have daytime availability. Change can be difficult and finding your way to therapy can be both scary and overwhelming. Together we can work to create change through a supportive and collaborative therapeutic relationship. Often times, we maintain cycles of behavior and relationships that create a feeling of imbalance, affecting our ability to face the difficulties that are thrown our way. We will work to increase insight into your thoughts and behaviors and find a path toward a positive future by utilizing strengths and supports that you already possess.

Emotional well-being much like physical health is a journey. It is a process that takes both time and effort. What you gain from your effort is entirely up to you, but it helps to have the right support! I believe you are the director of your life’s purpose and your potential for health and wholeness can be limitless! I believe our hurts, our traumas, our personal judgments of ourselves, and the judgments we internalize from others are things that disconnect us from our inner self, and our ability to heal, realize our potential and shine our light fully can be challenging. What holds you back or disconnects you from your inner self?

I believe building a healthy connection with yourself is the springboard to living a more fulfilling life and can enhance your ability to form deeper relationships. It is so important to do our own personal work, but I always wonder how much deeper we could go if we were able to share our growth with others? What would be different if we were able to be honest with our loved ones, share in our joy, or set healthy boundaries? I am passionate about helping people better understand themselves so that they can show up in their relationships more centered and grounded.

Sometimes, life deals us an awful hand with so many wounds and hurts that we have no idea how we'll get through. We feel sad, anxious, overwhelmed, angry, depressed and don't know how to move forward with that emotion. We find ourselves stuck in the same patterns and don't know how to change them. Frequently, our relationships struggle as a result. I believe in becoming whole and healing from these wounds and hurts. I believe each person has innate characteristics that make this healing possible. In therapy, our goal is to remove these constraints that prevent you from accessing your core Self and create a life that feels lighter.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
